Studs do nothing or even reduce your traction on any surface than ice, and eat up your tax dollars by tearing apart the roads. Hella not worth it. I would only ever run studded tires if I spent a significant percentage of my miles driving on ice roads, (as in roads that stop being there in the spring) which I do not.

I put lots of km on entirely ice covered roads every year going back and forth from Calgary to Vancouver and up to ski hill. And I pay shit loads of taxes so I’m perfectly okay using studded tires on my non-ABS, non-traction control, non-Electronic Stability Controlled vehicle from the 80's rather than putting it in the ditch, spinning out, and hitting things and people. Watch a video of Vancouver vehicles on ice. Calgary isn’t much better and ski hill roads are far worse. But thanks for your overly preachy ass comment, on a lightly humoured post. Have a great day.

¯\_()_/¯ fine, don’t be happy. None of my vehicles have any electronic nannies either, or airbags, or anything else. I don’t end up in ditches either, none of my vehicles have studs, and I live in Manitoba where you can’t see the pavement other than the salted highways from November to March. Studs are an archaic piece of technology with very limited useful applications. The cons very definitely outweigh the pros. Unless you’re exclusively driving on ice roads, they do more harm than good. It’s a huge peeve of mine. I’ll apologize for preachiness if it makes you feel any better, but I won’t withdraw my statement. I’d rather be on all-seasons than studs, and I’m not alone in that regard.
