God it is so perfect. This would be the perfect way to check V12 ownership off my bucket list.

Also, the driver’s footwell looks surprisingly narrow in this photo. Could just be the angle.

I know Oppo loves bench seats and column shifters, but there’s really nothing like a giant sedan with a cramped cockpit.

This dealer is notoriously overpriced. On the upside, their inventory is pretty nice.

Its narrow for a footwell but adequate.

The salesmen are super nice. I’ve walked onto the lot twice to just test drive something cool and they didn’t even try to make a sale. I drove this 750 when they first got it, and the 1982 Bill Blass Mark VI they had.

I’ve taken it on a test drive...

It was quite buttery and smooth.

So you’re saying I should get a Ford excursion?

I mean, you can live in one of those.

Really what I was saying was that I said I wanted an E90 M3 when I was in college and you know what I’m driving now.

Yup. Went down to Raleigh to drive it when they first got it in.

Any other thoughts on it?

I bought a steak dinner when I graduated.

Took me a few months to get the M3. I used my graduation money to get a Tag Heuer and an HK USP compact in 9mm.

I have certain associations with alpine white ‘97 E38s (I was supposed to have a 740iL as my first car before my mother decided I needed to be knocked down a few pegs, just because she’s like that) so I’m always biased towards them. It’s always nice to drive an E38 where everything works. The phone still comes on with the ignition, the back power seats work, seat-heaters, steering wheel heater is still working. Pulled very nicely, it’s actually more of a V12 then the S-Class is because it doesn’t have the turbochargers the M275 does. So it’s obviously very powerful but I wouldn’t call it fast. It’s an old school 90s V12, what can you expect? It’s kind of hard to describe it, because a V12 can’t have gaps in the powerband or get winded at the upper limits of the rev range, but it kinda feels like it should have more to give. Then you remember it only had 322hp/361lb-ft to move around 5,000 lbs.

It was very...nice.

Inline Auto down in Fuquay is much the same, along with Hanna Imports on Rock Quarry and now in Apex on 55.

I’ve only been to Inline once, I took my dad down there to have him test drive a W220 S600 that I had no intention of buying (2003, had an CEL for coilpacks, and a massive screw in the tire). Although one of the branches I deliver cars to for Enterprise is right next door so I drive by the front line a couple times a week.

But if I’m ever gonna buy a V8 S-Class or a 7-Series it will either be from them or CBS up on 70.

Sounds absolutely perfect.

And yeah, my mom was the same way when she found out I was priming to get an old A8L as my first car.

At least you ended up getting yours, through. I ended up with a 1994 Park Avenue Ultra that I had to slog through a year of transmission problems, intermittent power steering failure, and parts falling off until the engine cradle finally rusted so badly the drivetrain fell out. And even then, I was only able to upgrade to my old Continental. I didn’t get my Teutonic barge until my 21st birthday...and it’s not a present if you have to buy it for yourself.

I live about ten minutes from Inline/that Enterprise. My mother even bought her Equinox from the, um, lovely people that represent John Hiester Chevrolet.

That is super ironic seeing as I was going to get my grandparent’s ‘04 Park Avenue Ultra but they totaled it a few months before I got my license.
