The Lincoln Continental’s design was previewed a decade ago on the Ford Interceptor Concept. Best part is that the market changed but the function did not. It stayed a fleet vehicle with the expectation of throwing people into the back and knowing the owner would spend a lot of time in the driver’s seat.

Then two pictures to accentuate how much they diverged over 10 years.

I still remember the Interceptor as the first Ford concept I fell in love with. Really thought it looked “gangsta” like the Chrysler 300. I was just out of high school and if you’ve seen my Amanti then you know that part of me never died.

Sheer mediocrity in every other way aside, the interior of the Continental sure looks like a lovely place to be.

I sat in one of those at the PDX auto show last year. It was pretty fantastic.

The new Continental looks rather ordinary, but the interior is absolutely tremendous. Between the glossy wood, the abundant chrome, the soft yet distinctive-smelling leather, and the sheer number of toys, you can distinctly categorize it as American luxury, and there’s something pleasing about an unassuming rolling fortress of comfort when the rest of the world needs to be “dynamic.”
