I’ve been up all night..... Finally figured it was something electrical and called the company I have the service contract with and gave them what info I had. Took them all of 10 minutes after that. It was just the main floor luckily. The basement has it’s own zone so I cranked that up last night. Figures it happens on the coldest night of the year.....

I’ve had the following on loop while waiting this morning....

When we moved into this house, I kind of started learning about the gas furnace and how to keep it running. The second winter after moving in, we had a problem with the flame sensor, so I learned how to keep it cleaned, and how to shut off and restart the furnace anytime it failed.

Around 2010 or 2011, we awoke on a brutally cold Sunday morning to discover that the furnace wasn’t running, and the usual flame sensor fix didn’t change anything. Having watched the ignition process a number of times, I finally realized the ignition coil wasn’t heating up, and discovered a hairline crack.

Problem identified, I set out to get it fixed...but furnace parts are a difficult thing to find on a Sunday morning. I called around to a few places, explained that I’d figured the problem out and just needed a part. Two places wanted to charge me a trip charge and diagnostic fee to sell me the part, and no one else had them. I wasn’t about to pay $175 for a $25 part.

I ended up getting a space heater for the rest of the night and finding a warehouse the next day that stocked the part. I think I paid $60 for it, but did find another place that stocked them for $20 after I had the problem fixed.
