But we do have yuppies. One local beach instituted paid parking for non-residents (THIS IS A PUBLIC CITY PARK, NOT A PRIVATE ONE) because residents were complaining that “out-of-towners” were taking all the parking. Yes, people visiting your beach and eating at your restaurants at the waterfront or god forbid supporting local commerce is bad. So now if you want to visit, you pay $10 to park. See, if there was paid parking to begin with (there wasn’t), sure, cut the residents slack maybe. But adding a fee is a big “fuck you get out of our town” pretentious stance by the locals (most of whom themselves are from somewhere else, but whatever).

That reminds of the local high rise apartment/town houses for pseudo rich yuppies in a middle class town. In high school I visited a friend that wasn’t the only snob there. I had to go through security and explain why I was visiting etc. Resulting in a few nice words. I had to pay a pool fee even though I had a guest pass from my friend which included said privileges, and wasn’t allowed in the all exclusive game room. Fascists. I had chained up my bicycle to comeback and find a stupid ass pink sticker that warned me that my bike was in a highly traveled area (a stair railing in a empty parking lot) and that they would be serious repercussions next time in the sticker. The most irritating part was the goo left on my bike frame from the sticker. I had to buy goo gone that day while pedaling 4 miles. I asked the the town pd through my dad if they had any legal justification leaving a damn warning. The response was “don’t pay attention to the warning, they think they are in Beverly Hills”. Point of the story is I hate gated communities and the idea to harass the majority of the town population in your fake rich utopia housing complex is stupid.

And also yeah those are hot takes but they are backed up hot takes so yeah he makes a good point. ie., the locker interview where Brady wore the hat. at worst he could claim he’s just trolling which makes him look ignorant. at best...actually there is no best for his scenario.

Working in gated communities is among my least favorite things. It is admittedly quite rare for me.
[incoming boring story]
The most interesting spin on that I had was a bizarre community somewhere in Sammamish. It was up several series of hills and buried in some deep forests. The roads were spotless, not even a pine needle. There were tons of warning signs all over the place about 24 hour video surveillance. And there were some damn expensive looking camera towers. All the houses were beautiful, private, and had massive lots covered in big old trees.
I had no internet or GPS signal on the way there. I had to find the community by using a map book. So many turns... The map book where I had it marked is long gone and I’ve never been able to find that place again.

Could not agree more. I run a window washing company, and without fail, every time I send one of my guys to a gated community I get the most ridiculous complaints from the most irritating people I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Never happens anywhere else and my team generally hits 3000+ different private homes a year, from nice condos in the city to Bill Gates’ and Steve Balmer’s waterfront homes.
On the plus side, it’s probably better for us that the people living in those places are separate.
