Kinja'd!!!

In an opinion piece in today’s Wall Street Journal, a movement by Liberals against moderate Democrats in the mode of the Republican Tea Party Movement, would likely just make the map redder. And it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if the Liberal elite did just that.

Liberals are really very shit at closing ranks. Remember when we all hated Obama and thought he was neo-con Satan?

Tons of Republicans hate the Tea Party, but they’re always happy to close ranks when it benefits the party.

The funny thing is the Tea Party movement started out as a libertarian movement that got hijacked by the far right. It was a fairly moderate conservative movement at the start.

The Tea Party worked because it was re-assimilated back into the Republican party, making it the plurality that controls all the swing votes now. When there is already a plurality, throwing in a fourth electorate group doesn’t work because it can (at best) negate the effect of the third, and at worst, just splinter the existing party up.

We effectively have 3 parties right now: ~40% Reagan republicans, ~15% Trump republicans, and ~45% Democrats. The Reagan Republicans and Democrats absolutely refuse to vote for the other party or agree on anything, so the Trump republicans control the entire vote.

Strong partisanship and division between the base republicans and the base democrats is what has allowed the more extreme groups of either party to control votes. The democrat’s safest strategy right now is to pull the two parties together toward the middle so that the strong right plurality shrinks proportionally.

the parties are tearing themselves apart.

On the Joe rogan podcast there was a great bit on how 2 parties for 300mil americans is nuts.

This got me thinking on how the number of issues that want just keeps increasing. Up till 20s it seemed to be federal vs states rights, then womans suffrage, the 30s the question of safety nets, 50s/60s civil rights, anti war movement, gay rights, abortion rights. Mix in foreign policy, healthcare I think the nature of parties is antiquated in a world that is increasingly diverse and rapidly changing.
