*personal rant*

Kinja'd!!!

I like sharing information with people and thought that the GTO Owner’s FB page would like a little piece of info, but I guess not.

This is my post

Hey all just a little PSA. As a GM dealer and owning a Goat, I get to see all of our factory parts phase out. This has included the factory passenger wiper blades, but the driver side with the fin us still avaliable. Anyway as a Subaru store also we found that Subaru refill SOA591U320R fits the passenger side perfectly. Just thought I’d share for those of you who prefer refills.

All I wanted to do was share that there is a good alternative in case they need a refill or can’t get one somewhere else. But instead I just keep getting berated by people who say just go to Napa and buying from the dealer is stupid. I just don’t get it. I share a good piece of information, but they are all dicks about it. Why isn’t everyone like Oppo? I mean for the most part we are even nice to each other about the shit posting. Ugg, I am just frustrated. The people on there are always like that. It is like part of the time they are nice and helpful, but a lot of them are dicks!

Well just so you guys know, now you have that info too.

Tell them to GTFAC. It may be awhile for them to figure out the reference.

well since it’s not Oppo and they are clearly not beholden to our golden rule #1....

I think you’d be in the right to tell them they’re free to cram their Napa wipers up their asses. Sideways.

I used to get shit for buying OEM BMW parts. Even the turn signal that got stolen was replaced with OEM (amazon is cheap for that). Except water pumps cause BMW isn’t good in that department.

Ate there refills available for the ‘14 WRX rear wiper? I can’t seem to find any non-dealer options, but I haven’t really looked very hard either.

Passenger: pn/c: SOA591U216R $11.07 (original pn 86548FG050)

Should be right anyway.

Yeah, unless the factory part is crap, getting factory means it will always fit and was LITERALLY made for your vehicle.

The last time I replaced the rear wiper on the Forester, I just bought a Trico exact fit in the appropriate size from Amazon. I’ve been happy enough with it, and it was less than $10. I think you need a 16-B, but I’d double check that.

As it turns out, that wiper blade is used on two Subaru models; the B9 Tribeca and the SVX.

I find that amusing and kind of fitting...

Kinja'd!!! "CaptDale - is secretly British" (captdale)
02/03/2017 at 19:19, STARS: 0

Yeah... they are also the most expensive blades from Subaru. At least the whole assemblies cause the Tribeca has a weird latch mechanism.

Unless it is a battery for a 2011 Toyota Yaris. After multiple parts store batteries that wouldn’t fit, I finally went to Toyota and bought one... and it didn’t fit either. At that point, I modified the bracket to make it fit. Thanks goodness for a shop full of tools...

I understand using OEM parts for just stuff but wiper blades? I feel like those are probably supplied by a third party anyways

Pretty much everything in a vendor making a part, but they are made for your car.

That is weird

Kinja'd!!! "Jayhawk Jake" (jayhawkjake)
02/04/2017 at 11:52, STARS: 1

Nah. They are pulled from a catalog I can almost guarantee it.

I’m an engineer, parts like this are usually just a standard part from the vendor that is selected based largely on cost and function. In fact, I bet the wipers were designed to accommodate an off-the-shelf part to keep cost at a minimum, likely in a size that matches other volume produced models to minimize cost as much as possible.

I agree, weird... and annoying. The current batteries are all just a touch taller than the original, and the Yaris’ battery clamp is hooked to a strap at a fixed height on one of the sides. The other side that was supposed to slip down over the threaded rod just would not go low enough, even with waaaay more force than I should have put on it. Fortunately, the tab that sticks into the fixed strap had enough length that I was able to bend it neatly at an angle (using a 20 ton press... overkill can be good) so that the clamp sat up enough to clear the new battery. Research on the interwebs revealed that I’m not the only person to discover this annoyance, and furthermore the issue seems to be a bit random for some reason. Perhaps a run of those fixed straps got the hole in the wrong spot, and nobody noticed? I don’t know...

I should say the blade refill is the same, rather than the assembly itself, which is not the same. That blade refill is listed at $6 and appears to be one of the cheaper refills.
