Why do things keep happening to my car

Was driving along, heard a clunk from my transmission, went to shift into fifth and the moment I moved the stick right, horrible grinding noises, still goes in gear and works, but going into third and fifth grinds, and if I put any pressure to the right while in any gear, it slightly grinds. It should also be noted this only happens when the rear wheels are moving. 533I e28 for those that might have an answer.

Synchros starting to go?

I think starting to go was a while ago.

Simple test for this is to try going into those gears while revmatching. If no grinding while matching, likely synchros.

Mitsubishi is #26? Maybe they’ve never seen the cost of trans fluid on the Evo X.

I always rev match, even with the clutch fully egaged, just moving the stick grinds, no noticeable wear in syncros before

First I’ll tell you to stop that, and then give you a star

Volume... it’s not like you see an Evo on the street daily.

Definitely sounds like synchros to me...

I try to rev-match where I can, but I can’t learn heel-toe on my car to do so when under braking as the brake and gas pedal are at poor angles to each other for it (gas is further behind brake) and I have small feet, so it would be hard to reach.

Or any Mitsubishis at all for that matter

I would guess something to do with your shift linkage. If you can, check the transmission mounts and linkage bushings.

Shift forks maybe.

Yeah I can’t heel-toe either because my gas pedal is also behind my brake

On an e28?? I would’ve expected the pedals to be similar to the ones in my E36 and it’s easy as cake in that, the gas pedal is literally touching the other side of my foot.

That said, the pedals in my 4Runner are about a mile apart so I can relate to absolutely not being able to heel-toe something.

Good, I don’t feel left out now! :P Hyundai wasn’t exactly thinking ‘enthusiast driving’ when they put my Accent together... :D

That being said, it doesn’t handle that badly though, and with a stick (the auto makes it terrible!), the engine is nippy enough for what it is.

The gas connects at the floor so only the very top is in line with he brake, it’s very uncomfortable to heel-toe unless my heel is on the brake and toe on the gas, which feels wrong.

As far as I know all BMWs use floor mount throttle pedals.
You don’t actually have to use the heel and toe of your foot to heel toe. I use the left side of my on brake and right side of my foot on throttle.

That said I’m fucking terrible at heel toe.

Glad to know that others share my heel-toe struggles

My E36 is the same way, it’s more like left-side right-side than heel-toe but it’s really easy. Just roll your foot over onto the gas to blip it
