Its Friday, I’m at work, I’m sick, and our heat is broken in my department. But at least I brought my space heater in with me.

68 inside is a dream to me. We’ve been leaving our apartment door open to get he inside into the low sixties. Otherwise I get too hot during winter

Its not.... accurate. And when your department has a big garage door that’s drafty and it’s below 10 degrees outside, you start to feel a chill.

Oh yeah that’s no fun. A drafty 68 is miserable. You get the pains of cold with the temporary relief and then torture again.

It’s Friday, I’m at work, my boss emailed me that she’s staying home with a stomach bug, and I got a calendar invitation from one of the other managers in our department for something called “Friday Fun” at 10:30. Not sure what this will entail.

That’s where you probably got the bug.

I literally work in a garage, so its not quite sealed from the elements. Those elements made worse by the 10 degree temps outside, and people constantly walking in and out making me do work.

That or the kiddos. Its been running rampant in schools. One in a neighboring county had over 160 kids out sick in one day.

Its nice to have here in Parts to get big engines transmissions and axles in and out, but HELL on cold days like today, especially when the furnace is on the fritz.

us here too. We each have our own little space heaters for those 8 days of the year when it gets cold.

Ha, you have a heater?! I work in a damn ice box

I have a heater. That’s on the second floor. The slats are angled down so it’ll somewhat blow through the floor, which is metal grates.

We have a couple box fans up there to blow heat down....

They do their best.

We have a plug in heater hanging from the ceiling. It has two 8 inch heating tubes, but only one works. And some refrigerator rubber door way things hanging between the parts counter area and the warehouse area. Keeps most of the cold out.

Why do parts always get the worst of the heating and cooling?

Kinja'd!!! "Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)
02/03/2017 at 12:56, STARS: 1

My first dealership job did things right. The parts department was tall enough for a second floor, but had none. Up there though, an HVAC vent ran the entire length along the back wall. Why? Because on the other side of that wall was the showroom. On the other wall was the receptionist and waiting area.

And where was the thermostat?

By the office ladies.

It was always WAY TOO WARM in the winter, and COLD AS FAK in the summer.

Also the only part dept I knew of that had A/C, without someone cutting a hole in the wall to put in a window unit. But those are usually just in the manager’s offices.

02/03/2017 at 13:00, STARS: 0

WE kinda get the heat from the service seating area, but the A/C there doesn’t ever work. Just the A/C in the office upstairs. Our back area is 3 staggered levels. So like 2.5 and winter it is an ice box and summer it’s hot....

Kinja'd!!! "Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)
02/03/2017 at 13:13, STARS: 1

In the summer time I open the window and door to the waiting area and suck the precious A/C from there.

My previous job had parts between the service drive, and the shop. The only A/C we got was a hot breeze between the two.

Yeah, luckily we are in a valley and get some gnarly summer breezes. Open all the doors and upstairs windows and suck in the air flow even if it isn’t cold, it is cooler.

Luckily the walls were all hollow block, so the humidity and temps did stay a bit cooler than the oven-like shop, with its metal roof and walls.

Oh yeah, the metal shop is the worst! We have traditional building materials, but it is a lot nicer than out there. Those techs are always miserable. Especially under a hot car that just drove 40 miles for their oil change.
