I flipped someone off tonight

I was waiting to make a left. A car was coming from the left, so I waited, as one does. They are going slow but no blinker. The slow some more, still no blinker, and then they slow some more and turn all without an indicator which meant I sat there simply because they were too inconsiderate/lazy (or more likely just stupid) to bother indicating a turn, so they got the up arrowfrom me.

Why I started laughing two blocks later: I was driving a BMW and flipped someone off for not signaling.

What do I win?

Just a story, but I never flip anyone off anymore. One time a guy cut me off crazy close on the freeway going into Houston. I could barely see his brake lights when he did it, but he slammed on his brakes and came to a complete stop in the middle lane just to return the favor. If he didn’t drive such a POS car I surely would’ve rear ended him badly.

I figured if someone will react that dangerously to a middle finger who’s to say they wouldn’t use a gun if they had one on them?

Also QOTD. If I would’ve rear ended him, who’s fault would it have been? He cut me off with literally a foot between us and came to a complete stop for no reason than to flip me off. Oppopinions?

This is why signalling needs to be HABIT. Not just when cops are looking, not just when you’re begging to be let into a busy lane, not just when your car’s path conflicts with another car’s path, but EVERY TIME. EVERY turn. EVERY merge.

I don’t do it because of crazies either. I actually felt a little bad about it for a second as I don’t like to be rude, before realizing the irony of the BMW driver being annoyed at poor driving habits. I both signal religiously and park like I’ve done it before. Odd man out. I know it. Oh do I know it.

I signal so many things I have to resist the urge to use my turn signals on track every once in a while when approaching a chicane that has a bypass we aren’t using.

I believe you’re covered if that were the case. There’s something about entering a lane and slowing. Then I believe it’s illegal to stop on the expressway for no cause.... but I’m just going by what I remember from drivers ed way back In the day.

I hate that too. I don’t drive perfect, but I try to be considerate of the other drivers. Non signaling is a huge pet peeve of mine. It’s something that is so simple and yet folks can’t be bothered to flick a fucking lever.

BMW drivers are so obnoxious. What I wanna read about is when you don’t flip somebody off.

About 30 years ago, I was a young college kid driving deliveries for an ad agency. While driving downtown one day, a guy mildly cut me off. Nothing major, but I was young and foolish at the time. So I flipped him off. He stopped his car in the middle of traffic, got out and came straight to my van. You could practically see the steam coming out of his ears. My door was unlocked, and he yanked it open, all the while screaming, “Get the fuck out of the van! Get the fuck out of the van!” He grabbed me, and tried to pull me out. Fortunately, I had my seatbelt on. Unable to extricate me from the van, he slammed the door as hard as he could, marched back to his car, and drove away. That was the last time I ever flipped anybody off on the road.

All that said, it is your exact situation that causes me, daily, to rethink my position on flipping the bird.

Lol. Same. I’ve signaled a left to the 2nd gear left to the straight away Laguna. Turn 11 I think it is. More than once.

For those of you unfamiliar, I know OC in real life and he’s just butt hurt about it happening inside of the car. Pay the man no mind.

A couple people I know only signal if there are other cars in sight. I’ve tried to show them their error, but both are set in their ways.

Your story and New name’s story are why I don’t flip people off. I’ve been sorely tempted many times, but I’d rather just fume in silence than deal with some rando’s anger issues.

When I was an undergrad studying music, one of my teachers taught me something rather profound. He said, “When something happens, you choose your response to it.” If you’re in line at the bank and some guy is refinancing his home with pennies, you can choose to get upset or you can choose to wait patiently. When somebody cuts you off, you can choose to get upset, or you can choose to just let it go. Driving should be a cooperative effort, but sometimes people refuse to cooperate. And some people have to prove they’re right, and it’s just not worth it. The horn on the car means, “Holy shit we’re going to crash!” It doesn’t mean, “Fuck you!”

Meh, I slip up from time to time myself. I try to calculate whether or not he’s going to pull out a gun and shoot me a 70 mph before I risk it.
