The Park Police has recently been using an unmarked white 2002 Impala 9c1. Looks like this.

Took me by surprise because of how old it is.

Got a warning there in the late 70s ... joked how I was driving a Rabbit diesel that didn’t have the guts to go over 50MPH (would go 110 if pushed) so the cop laughed, and let me off.

By 110 you mean km/h right?

Don’t live anywhere near there...but this just reminded me.

Last week I saw a ratty blue Chevy Aveo hatch driving through a local mall parking lot. The back windows between the C & D pillars were taken out, and there were license plate scanners mounted inside of them. That just seems like some of the shiftiest crap I’ve ever heard of.

Did you get a ticket for excessive black smoke?

I drove several of those VW diesels. Good cars. The last one I had was an ‘84 Jetta turbodiesel.

No, MPH, if downhill and pushed. At least that was what was indicated - de ZEITZ instruments might have been a BIT optimistic.

Shadiest undercover I’ve ever seen was a purple Dodge Caravan.

Sneaky. I got pulled over by a statey in a 9C1 Caprice in 2005. I was shocked to see it.

Illinois State Pplice used to use an unmarked Grand Prix and an unmarked XJ Cherokee. They were both running soft plates. Sneaky bastards.

Definitely a repo man.

They had a few of those in service around here until around 2007, haha.

But the Park Police have at least five 2002-2004 Impalas in service and at least three older CVPIs. That’s kinda weird for a Federal police agency.

That is weird.

A semi-local police department was in the news recently. They had an old Caprice that had been sitting around for years, but only had like 2,500 miles on it. It had been used as a parade car. They decided to fix it up and put it in service.

Mchenry Illinois! I saw that article, pretty awesome story. Guy who had it clearly likes it a lot.

I guess I’ve just never seen one in action before.

I’ve seen it a few times. The first time I saw it the plate readers they where just screwed to the hood of an otherwise plain white tow truck, so that made it pretty obvious what was going on.
