Kinja'd!!!

Well, maybe not love, but this will be my third time making this trip in 6 weeks as I have another interview down there. I did the math for the first trip, and the amount of gas saved by renting a car alone pays for the rental car, as the M3 is not cheap to run. It’s amazing and I love it, but it’s not cheap. So I’ll be getting another rental, anyone want me to write up my thoughts like I did with my last rental ?

Depends on what you rent.

Nah, who am I kidding. I’ll read whatever you drive.

Another interview, or a second interview?

Surely Turo has some good options!

Another interview, seems it’s usually a phone interview then an in person than they make a decision. This place decided they’d rather just skip the phone interview.

I didn’t think about Turo, only cars with enough miles would be a Cadillac Escalade, a Dodge Grand Caravan, or a Corolla.

It gives me something to think about besides how long I’ve got to go or “damn I wish I was in the M3 right now.”

Interestingly, during that when they visited Roswell, they didn’t level the city because he or his wife was related to someone who was from there so as a result Roswell has some of the most pre civil war buildings out of any place in GA.

I also rented cars for long trips when I had the E90! It really bothered me that I felt it necessary to do that as its a great road trip car. However I was always afraid of something breaking and where I was going to get 10W-60 in the middle of nowhere.

4 hours to get from Roswell to Savannah? What are you doing the speed limit. Just slow down in Swainsboro, Statesboro, and Pooler. I’ve made it from the South Side of Savannah to the exit after Buckhead in a little over 2 hours. The M3 would be fun driving there!

Where are you interviewing at? JCB, Gulfstream, Corps of Engineers, or another company?

Write ‘em up!!

Safe arrival and return and best wishes on interview.

Which rental company? FWIW the green-and-white rental company “That Picks You Up” has rented me (thank you very much, ppl!) 10 different German vehicles, a Yukon, and an ALS in the past 12 months.

Depending what kind of rental you’re looking for

I’ve got an extra quart in my trunk now because it needed 10W-60 in the middle of no where.

I just set the cruise at like 8 over and forget it, there either seems to be no cops or tons of them. I really don’t need a huge ticket right now.

Another company, I’m not even exactly sure what company is it.

I guess I might look at that company, although last time I rented from them I got the worst car I’ve ever driven, a Kia Forte. It was shit. It’s really all about price. I wish Sixt had an office in Roswell.

how expensive does gas has to be for you to actually consider renting a car for a 4 hr drive (8 hr round trip) ... ?

I have a half dozen of those BMW branded velcro backed “oil bags” from Turner. They hold a qt, gloves, towels, and a paper funnel. .....There were 2 M cars and a TT V8 x5 in the family for a short while.

Yuck.

In truth those rentals have mostly been intermediate-class covered by employer. A couple times I paid out of pocket for upgrades and once they offered a free upgrade after some kind of corporate hiccough (on their part). Asking pretty persistently what they have on the lot or asking to go look myself usually seemed to get something better than the random computer-assigned vehicle, they always seemed pretty OK with that

Kinja'd!!! "E90M3" (e90m3)

First we need to make a couple of assumptions, which are that the M3 gets 18 mpg on the highway on premium that costs $2.70/gal and that the rental will get 30 mpg on the highway on regular that costs $2.20/gal. Given that it’ll cost $0.15 per mile in fuel alone on the M3, and $0.073 per mile in the rental. Since it’s a 550 mile round trip, it’d cost $82.5o in gas in the M3 and $40.33 in gas in the rental. It costs me, well the company I interviewed with, $69.55 for 2 days. So the total cost of the rental, assuming the same rental cost, would be $109.88, while it would cost me $82.50 in gas alone to drive the M3. That doesn’t take into account wear and tear, meaning it only “costs” me $27.28 more to rent a car than to take the M3. When I did the trip in a day, it was actually cheaper to get rent the car plus gas than it was just to pay for gas in the M3, since the rental was under $40.

There are lots more jobs for ChemEs, I’m trying to get a job as an engineer, do that for a few years then go to a different role.

What are your thoughts on Savannah these days? I haven’t been in over 10 years. I hear it’s changed quite a bit.

I guess if you’re willing to go there again, it can’t be that bad right?

That was my story 25 years ago. (Well, I mean I’m not that smart but still.) No jobs, so I went on to get an MAE and then they wanted me to continue on with a PhD. I decided I’d had enough school so I was a programmer for a while, then decided to go to law school ironically.

I like it down there, seems like it’s a pretty nice area to live. Before 2016, the last time I was down there was in 2004 and I think it’s changed a lot. My sister has been living there for 3 years now and really likes it.

I was wondering what you do that you get all these awesome cars, lawyer makes sense.

Also since I know you had one, did the clutch on the 1M feel a lot heavier than other M clutches? I test drove one the other day and it was noticeably heavier than the clutch in my M3.

That wasn’t my experience, but I actually don’t have much seat times in M3s. I have way more seat time in 3-pedal M5s/M6s all the way back to the early 90s.

I’ve only seen cops a few times, but other times as a passenger I’ve seen a bunch. I saw an idling state trooper in a Charger, catch the grass underneath it on fire going through the Boro on 16. It was the only cop I saw the whole trip to Atlanta.

Good luck! I know there’s a few small engineering company that do military contracts in the Savannah area.

There were actually a good amount of speed traps when I drove down this week, other times they’ve been non-existant. I guess it’s all luck of the draw.

Thanks, I think this company makes water soluble polymers or something.
