0083 Stardust Memory has the best art direction and animation of any Gundam show or movie.

I CAN’T! it’s literally impossible. Can’t be outdone. I’ve been saying that since I first watched the OVA maybe 10 years ago. And every time I rewatch it I’m mesmerized by the art direction and animation detail from the ‘90s era of Gundam.

The only show that has done as great/or better is Unicorn Gundam. At least to my eye, it was like watching 0083 all over again.

I actually think the only one that even comes close is Gundam Thunderbolt.

I’ve yet to watch Thunderbolt, but from what I’ve seen, it’s spectacular. My rule of thumb is that the OVAs and movies are where you’ll always see the best Gundam art and direction; save for the 0079 movies, which reused footage from the original 42 episodes with some scenes getting touched up or replaced entirely.

But Unicorn, Thunderbolt, 0083, Endless Waltz, and arguably Zeta/New Translation have the best art and direction in the franchise history.
