So, first of all, I haven’t finished my head gasket. Hell, I’ve barely started. I need to manually rotate the crankshaft so that the first cylinder is at Top Dead Center. That wouldn’t be too terrible if I hadn’t habitually put the automatic car in park before going ahead and removing the battery. Now I need to find something long and thin to reach the shift lock override thing, and for some reason Ford decided to make the hole about half the diameter of a standard screwdriver/pencil/anything at all that someone would likely be able to find easily. I suppose I could have just put the battery back in, but I’m lazy, you know?

And to top it off, I just broke my 32gb micro SD card from my dashcam. Stupid Black Box GW1 has the slot upside-down, so that the little tab on the card is up against a flat surface and the finger slot on the camera just gives you a slippery flat surface. I’ve had to use an earring as a miniature crowbar to get it out of there before (which I wouldn’t need to do if the camera would stop corrupting it and forcing me to reformat it) but this time I heard a pop and now the card is bent and unreadable.

Long story short: If you ever need something fixed, don’t let me do it.

Why does it need to come out of Park to rotate the engine?

It doesn’t? Well, poo. How do I do this, then?

The parking pawl locks the output shaft to the transmission case, but not the engine. That’s why your car can idle at several hundred RPM in Park.

You should be able to rotate the engine as-is, but you can remove the spark plugs so that you won’t be fighting compression.

Oh yeah... I don’t know why that never occurred to me.

Oh well. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, so I’ll leave the engine in one piece for now until it’s all cleared up out there.
