From what I have read, I think exit polls showed him up over Romney by like 1.5% among Black voters.
But based on the numbers I saw, it looked like a lot of Democrats just didn’t bother to show up for this election, so I would expect Trump to have a higher percentage of the Black vote than Romney.

IIRC, he was polling at around 1% with the black vote, maybe he got a wee bit more in the election. But if anything, that was just people fed up with the unemployment situation and holding their noses after 8 years of Obama “failing” the black community by many accounts. The fact that Trump thinks he’s popular with blacks is shocking to me. I live in a ~50%/50% black/white area and can assure you this is not the case.

Trump used the same campaign tactics as Obama, just targeted to a different voter base.
“Nobody cares about you, you’ve been ignored for too long, vote for me and I’ll make things better.”
In both cases, it worked. The goal was to win an election, which obviously both of them did.

It’s like condescension, delusion, and paternalism all wrapped into one. I remember when Ross Perot was talking to a group of black people (might have been NAACP) and said something like “...your people...” in reference to their organization. Naturally, it caused an uproar because people chose to take it as a racially charged statement, even though that was not his intent at all.

Why do you care? He is going to be saying a lot of stupid things that aren’t necessarily accurate just like any president. I would expect it to be more severe, but it’s nothing to get hot and bothered about. Man is just stroking his ego.

I care on more than one level, and I’m not sure how much of an answer you want.
As for saying stupid things, well, I rather expect the POTUS not to regularly be saying stupid things. I do not think that is an unreasonable expectation.

Pretty simple -
Obama’s campaign message to black voters: “Nobody cares about you, you’ve been ignored for too long, vote for me and I’ll make things better.”
Trump’s campaign message to rural lower / middle class white voters: “Nobody cares about you, you’ve been ignored for too long, vote for me and I’ll make things better.”
Both used the same general message to different voter bases to win their elections. Trump may have gotten more black voters than previous R candidates, but they weren’t his primary target.

I see what you are saying, but I think there is more to it than that, when you consider other social factors. Trump is a Rich White Guy, so anything he says to or claims about Blacks is suspect, particularly when you look at his business dealings in the past.
