Last month I went on a trip to Hawaii, dividing my time between Maui and the big island. There are plenty of prude beaches, but only two nude beaches on Hawaii: Kehena Beach on the big island, and Little Beach on Maui. Ever the adventurer, I hit them both.
First stop: Kehena Beach. Lots of vintage, wacky cars here, including your typical surfer VW vans. A few of the standout rides included:
My personal favorite has to be little the “Ratsun” truck. Kehena was beautiful, with black volcanic sand. Very hippie-dippy. I think most people around me were at least somewhat stoned.
Next, Little Beach on Maui. Totally different car scene. It was almost entirely rental Veranos, Sonics, and Camaros. Probably because Little Beach is popular with tourists. I did spot this cheeky bumper sticker, though:
Little Beach was also incredibly beautiful, and there was a pod of humpback whales breaching about a mile off the coast. It was difficult to capture on camera, though. Anyway, that ocean. Damn.
Oh, and there was a drum circle at sunset. Because of course there was.

I lived there (Maui) for a little while and yeah, that beach was a visual minefield. There were certainly some... rewards?.... but overall we only went there because there was sometimes a good surf break.
I remember one day there was an older dude with no board shorts on surfing the break pretty well... but then he had on a rash guard. It’s like, come on. You don’t want a wax rash on your belly but you’re okay with... other areas? Bruh.
The drum circle and people dancing with fire, etc was a pretty regular occurrence too.

People often ask that. I’ve been to some that are that way, but not these beaches. Especially Little Beach. The crowd was younger (20s and 30s) and about half were women. Then again, if you’re going to a nude beach to gawk, you’re probably going for the wrong reasons.

Interesting - when I lived there I don’t recall it being that “young” but then, this was 2005. So... yeah. I’m old now.

The closest I’ve ever been to a nude beach was South Beach over 15 years ago. Weather was cloudy with on and off rain so not as many people as you’d think. Mostly just old people in speedos. but, from what I hear from people who travel abroad, those kinds of beaches are mostly populated by people too old to care anymore.
Now the old dude with just a rash guard? Really? That doesn’t make sense at all

Most of what I hear regarding those types of beaches, people make faces like they saw a terrible car accident they just remembered.
Personally, anywhere I go that has lots of people, I people watch. Even if I go to concerts I find myself paying attention to the crowd more than the show and I have to refocus.

Haha - do you leave towels or sheets on all the furniture?
I’m a big proponent of taking off most of my clothes when I get home, but stick with shorts and a t-shirt. I sleep with nothing on 95% of the time, and on weekend mornings I’ll wear shorts and nothing more for a few hours (would do this more if I was in better shape - ha!).

Yeah, it’s a good rule of thumb to have something to sit on, just out of respect for guests and such. It’s easy to just set down a towel.

@15 years ago I was with my parents looking for a beach on the east side that is noted for having a bunch of seashells that wash up. We were warned “well there’s kindof a nude beach next to it”. We drive out on these tiny back roads. we pull into the wrong beach. See a few left over hippies from the 70's.

keep on trekking over this large boulders. along the shore to the next cove. Get to the other side and there is no beach, instead of going back. we figure “we’ll just cut across the edge of this guys property.” my dad and I were in the lead with my mom @50 feet behind. get to the top of the ledge and this landscaper answers his cell phone
“hello”
mom (still down the path) “Hi we’re a little lost, we’re just trying to get back to our car”
guy; into his phone “when”
mom “ we just got here”
this went on for about 3 minutes with my dad and I just about to piss ourselves.
Guy finally says to just cut down the path.
