One thing that drove me nuts about this house...

Kinja'd!!!

The hinges on every door were dark bronze, yet ever drawer handle, plate, faucet, knob — all other hardware — was nickel, chrome, or stainless. Even the door handles on said doors were satin.

Now, if all door hinges were dark AND closet hang rods and drawer handles were also dark, that would work. But no, even those were all some other variation of “silver.”

But I guess that’s why I’m not a designer... NO IMAGINATION.

I’m bothered by the lack of a lampshade on that one lamp between the mirrors.

The new trend in bathrooms is to be completely blinded by your own lights. If you can’t see every chicken pox scar and clogged pore, it’s not good enough.

I’m also bothered by how the ceiling light doesn’t line up with the middle of the door.

This can’t be a new build...right?

Flooring looks odd, somehow.

It’s in line with the other can lights which once further out are centered on the ceiling. Rooms this big are impossible to photograph properly on this phone.

Yep, brand new home.

Floor looks odd because it’s all little hexagons of tile throughout. If they’re not all perfect, the light will hit some and reflect as you see.

I’ve had many conversations with home owners that pretty much went exactly like that.

This is one of those fancy bathrooms with a poop closet? I hate the poop closet. I want a poop room, toilet in the middle of a 20x20 room with a good outdoor view.

Agreed. Notice how there is no toilet visible... It has a “water closet” behind that open door on the right.

The toilet is the most important thing in any bathroom, yet most new construction involves shoving it behind a door in a narrow closet barely 3' wide, and almost never with any natural light.

Wow, reminded me of a fancier 50s era layout, for some reason. The tile looks like lumpy vinyl, but no doubt the glare is being unfair.

Ugh. I might still be a architecture/design student, but man, this is the absolut worst. Just pick a finish and roll with it throughout the whole project.

This interior is designed for new-money people to feel like old-money. The exterior is otherwise completely inoffensive and contemporary.

It’s almost like you described post-1990 or so Bellevue.

I’d more feel like money in the tiled bathroom of a nicer 1920s-30s house, but that’s just me.

I also stopped by their last project recently, and every little bit of metal was dark. Even the hardwood was a dark finish. Except for the bathroom hardware, which is exactly how it should be. Looked great overall.

Maybe this particular house was also in Bellevue. Just maybe.

Shocking!

If west of 405, maybe a 4000 sq ft house on a 6000 sq ft lot where 18 months ago an unassuming 1100 sq ft 1952 bungalow was trying to live its life. Bonus points for faux craftsman/tuscan/mcmodern “design”.

Speaking of Bellevue, I see a 75-79 Corolla 2 door almost every day downtown, makes me think of something you might want - it appears to be in decent shape.

I always find dark finished hardwood impossibly hard to pull off, but when you manage to do it, the result is fantastic.

My inlaws’ new house they apparently ran out of hinges, so there are a few different shades. Luckily they’re all darkish, but some are black, others dark bronze, etc. Most people won’t notice (I think) but I look at tiny details like that, drives me crazy.

Also they have an amazing garage. Two car with one tandem (i.e. 2 car deep) bay, plus an 8 ft area hanging off the side, and then a big area above it you could put a loft in if you wanted.

I’m spraying all my hinges and door hardware (on entry/closet doors, not cabinets) matte black. It’s coming out pretty darn nice and a LOT cheaper than buying all new shit.
