How about a radial engine inside your front wheel? As the engine block rotates and the crank is stationary, it would be a rotary engine in the aircraft terminology.

Not only that, but it was direct drive, no clutch.
Want to stop? Kill the engine. Want to start the engine back up? IIRC, release compression, and push start it, and jump on once it’s rolling. So, ideally, just don’t stop - circle waiting for the intersection to clear instead.

Although, I’d argue that that’s not really the same - I mean, every transverse engine is offset some, but the whole engine bay isn’t offset on that. (And, besides, the motor that drives the wheels is on the left side of that engine bay.)
