I’ve been in a pretty similar situation and did not even have lightness. Just steered into the next lane under breaking. It looks like he could have been fine but when he steer into the next lane acted like he was turning instead of just switching lanes and it pulled the back end out.

Shit tires, I reckon. That quick lane change led into an oversteer slide, I wonder if there was little/no grip.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven by a used tire place to see an expensive German car (BMW, Audi, Porsche Cayenne yesterday even) rolling up to get a set of tires. I’ve been to places like that, and I’ve gotten some decent tires, for a ‘93 Explorer mind you, but I suspect most commoners just want something round and rubbery and don’t give a crap about how they actually perform.
