It’s that time again for the state of the left foot union address [insert Make America Shift Again joke here]. Surprisingly, there is little change in the number of manual transmissions being offered this year. In fact, we may witness the death of the sedan at the hands of the omnipresent crossover before manual transmissions disappear form option lists everywhere.
First up is the list of sedans and hatchbacks. It’s still pretty common to opt for a 5 or 6 speed on a compact/sub compact, though usually in some sort of base trim. Note; the Focus ST/RS and Subaru STI only come in manual.

You can still apparently buy a base sub compact fwd crossover with a manual (I’m not really sure why you want to though). Likewise GM and Nissan have work trucks with manuals. Just like years past Jeep, Subaru, and Toyota are the only ones who will sell you 4wd with a clutch.

As I mentioned early not many fell off this year, but you’ll note the number of cars that will be gone next year (Dart, Lancer, Viper, SS, Patriot). So it seems not just manuals are dying, but the cars that have manuals are dying. No doubt removed from model line ups to make room for roly poly family trucksters.

You’re wrong with the Juke. You can get a manual on the: S, SV, NISMO, NISMO RS. All FWD trims except the SL.

It did, Honda still has it on their website. I thought it was listed as a ‘17 but I guess it’s a ‘16.

My wife just bought a ‘14 manual AWD A4. It’s pretty good. It’s a shame it’ll probably disappear as an option by the next gen.

I know you have the Compass on the list, but it does look like the new 2018 Compass coming later this year will indeed have a 6MT/2.4L option on FWD models. I realize its basically just a stretched Renegade and the manual will probably be limited to base models like the CX-5, but it is nice to see it will hang around for a while.

Canadian Exception:
Both Audis aren’t offered with a manual here.
Manual 3-series only available on the 340i sedan trim.
Also manual for 4-series is only for the coupe, not the Gran Coupe nor Convertible.

It must has changed for 2017. It’s the opposite for Canada, you can get the SV (Canadian spec SV is a US spec S). Y0u can’t get a NISMO RS with a manual up here any more, they discontinued the NISMO for Canada after 2015.

When shopping used it is interesting to just search by manufacturer and filter for manual transmission cars. It is shocking how short the lists gets.

You’ll need to update your list (sadly). The smart fortwo ends US production this month with dealers no longer taking orders as of two months ago. This means the only manuals you can buy are what’s left on dealer lots...And once they’re gone, the US and Canada will be without a manual and without a petrol smart.

FT-1 will have 2 versions. Both having a hybrid AWD system. The base model will have an inline-4 while the high-performance version (likely TRD) will have a 943F Twin Turbo V6.

When is 2018 edition coming out? Viper was axed, the Z4 successor is said to come in manual, the SS is gone, Dart is gone and replaced with the Mexican Market Neon, I probably already know the list but I like the officialness of this countdown to the manual transmission’s demise. I only drive stick and it’s cathartic to see the decline in real time. Like watching your grandma get weak and start coughing before she dies so you were a little more mentally prepared when she doesn’t wake up one morning. As my name suggests, it’s very important to me.
