Context: Jared Kushner is Donald Trump’s son-in-law and works, without taking a salary, on the cabinet-level staff in the Trump Administration as a close aide to the POTUS. Kushner’s grandmother was interviewed in 1982 and her videotaped interview is on file at the National Holocaust Memorial Museum. O.C. finds this ironic, given recent Trump Administration edicts regarding immigration and communications regarding the Holocaust. O.C. is reminded that Judaism is an ethnicity and not merely a faith.

If you’ve ever interacted with an Orthodox community, you wouldn’t find it ironic. The ban is the reason many of them supported him. Also, many of them believe that the religion and ethnicity are one in the same.

Also interesting about Kushner is his lack of experience, credentials or credibility. He fits right in. The fraud behind the family fortune is also a nice touch.

I’ve had a little bit more interaction with the Jewish community than many, or perhaps most, non-Jews, enough to respect the degree of complexity that is Being Jewish. Still, I think Kushner’s Jewishness is something that deserves to be out in the public awareness.

I’m surprised more people don’t know about it. The Orthodox Jews I know were well aware he and Ivanka are Jews. What should also be in the public’s awareness is that his father, Charles Kushner, is a felon who was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering in 2005.

I think that is a fair comment, though I really am not. I think Kushner’s lineage -- he married into the Trump family after all -- is noteworthy.
