It’s the only thing I’ve been playing when I get home from school and whatnot (aside from a little Forza).
Fantastic.
Kind of plays like Half-Life but with a bit of horror and the AI (most reviews will note this) make the firefights so addictive.

This game is actually scary haha. Great to play in absolute darkness with the volume set to max. I actually forgot about this game since I tried playing it years ago. My laptop is absolute crap though so I should try to find it on PS3 if its available.

If you like more linear single player FPS shooters, this one is one of the best for me.

I remember my dad playing this when I was younger but was too scared to ever try lol. Played in the dark with headhones on is the only way to play it. But tbh its not that scary, but one or two jumpscares really tested my reflexes lol :P
Maybe its because the graphics are a little dated (but some of the effects, like dust and smoke are great), but the atmosphere is nonetheless there.

Oh yeah atmosphere is everything. Even a game like “The Last of Us” has some genuinely scary moments. And that is just because the story makes you care about the characters and the places they go. So you end up actually frightened when shit starts hitting the fan. Graphics are probably a degrading factor but I have never been a huge graphics fan anyways. I spent plenty of time playing the original Resident Evil games on PS1 so I know what poor graphics are like lol.

Even though it’s masquerading as a horror game, this is probably the best FPS game I’ve ever played. Good weapons, great atmosphere, good sounds, really good enemy AI, and good implementation of bullet time to help overcome the enemies being able to flank you and surprise you just makes it such a solid and enjoyable FPS game. The two expansions for the first game are good too. Unfortunately F.E.A.R. 2 was meh, and F.E.A.R. 3 was a hot mess.

Precisely. I’ve just finished Extraction Point so I’m going to start Perseus Mandate soon. One thing I also really liked is the dust and debris that flies around in firefights. One of my favourite moments was in a barely lit, and very cramped hallway against an enemy minigun guy and with all the explosives I couldn’t see through all the smoke and it made it really intense. It’s times like that where the outdated graphics are irrelevant because of the effects.

Yeah it’s a bit over the top on visual effects, but that just adds to the experience. It’s a game that doesn’t try to be overly realistic and revels in the fact that it is a game and it’s meant to be enjoyed. The big shockwaves from grenades are awesome. Also, best video game shotgun of all time.
Dangit now I’m going to have to play it again lol

Cool! I love Gears of War, COD campaign I enjoyed too. I’ll keep my eyes out for this on the cheap.
Have you played Dead Space? I got that on XBox Live Gold deals, haven’t messed with it yet though.

I’ve started the first Dead Space but never got around to finishing it. *shrugs* I should try it again now that you mention it but maybe it’s the third person that doesn’t keep me as interested.

The game with both expansion packs are $10 (regular price).
I got it for $2.50 (which was bargain of the year lol, for how much I enjoyed it), but tbh even if you were to play all of them once over it would still be worth $10. (canadian dollars buut I think the prices would be very similar if not the same in US)
