Prius towing capacity looks to be 1600lbs, so yeah, I’d guess they are going a bit over if they put just about any vehicle on that.

Maybe they are towing the trailer to an RV which they’ll use to two the Prius, but didn’t want to drive to where they bought the trailer
Or they’re going to build a 4 bike rack and use the trailer instead of the roof/hitch.

It’s a Prius C, which is the tiny version, so I would wager that your useful load is somewhere around 900lbs combined.

I considered that, but it’s not like the Prius C comes with a tow hitch. It is a very odd thing to ask of such a tiny car.

My smartie has a towing hitch. Max tow weight is 1k lbs which puts you around tiny teardrop trailer. :)

That’s a good point, makes the bike trailer more likely though. I’ve see Priuses dragging bumper trying to haul 4 bikes on a hitch rack, but a trailer would cancel that payload limitation.

Something like that! lol The Europeans will only tow 1k lb with them, but I’ve seen a few Americans (potentially stupidly) tow up to 1,800 lb with them. I know of a YouTuber who towed a loaded 1,800 lb trailer across the country in his. Mind you, that trailer weighs exactly the same as the car. :O

Is that tow rating a European tow rating or a US tow rating?
European tow ratings assume a lot less tongue weight, and much slower speeds...

Prius c tow rating is 0 pounds around the world, for transaxle cooling reasons (and it’s not sold in Europe, the market where it’d be expected to have one).
Gen 4 Prius is the first Prius with a tow rating, and that’s where it’s 725 kg, in Europe only. 75 kg towbar weight limit, so you can actually go over 10% tongue weight (European tow ratings often assume 4-7% tongue weight), but they’re still keeping it slow.
