About three years I ago, I wrote a post about my visit to the ghost town of Daniels, Maryland. After it was flooded by Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972, the once-thriving mill town was completely abandoned. Last weekend, I returned and explored some corners of the town I hadn’t visited before.

There were a bunch of cars. Some were new to me, like this Mk1 Triumph Spitfire:

And this 1953 Chevrolet 210 sedan:

Kinja'd!!!

Others I had seen before, most notably the 1958 Rambler Six:

1960 Chevrolet Biscayne:

Kinja'd!!!

And the kind of detritus you’d expect in a town washed away by floodwaters.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

There are also a couple of churches, the only structures left (somewhat) standing.

And I even brought home a souvenir!

I should go check this place out - it’s close to where I’m at. Very neat.

Apologies for Passat, but those would look good on the Phaeton

It’s worth a visit. Some cars are right by the trail (Rambler, Biscayne are next to the ruins of the Catholic church), but others you need to do a bit of wandering off-trail to find (Triumph, 210).

Nice place for a metal detector. We have old logging and railroad towns here and you always find some cool stuff.

That grill belongs to a 1967 Pontiac Tempest (possibly a Tempest LeMans)!

It was bugging me out because I couldn’t figure out right away if could have belonged to an Olds Cutlass (or 442) or a ‘70 Coronet.

Looking at this picture I for a moment thought it was some centuries old ruin, but it’s all quite recent. Interesting place none the less.

Neat! I thought it might be of Pontiac origin.

Also, that makes these the newest car parts I’ve found in Daniels to date. Since the hurricane struck in ’72, that means this poor Pontiac was just five years old when it was suddenly drowned.

This particular church (St. Stanislaus) burned down in 1926, so they’re a few decades older than the rest of the town. But certainly not centuries old.

Bummer, it could have been one of the fastest and hottest cars in town at the time!
