Well, initially I thought I could fix it all, but the moment that made me reconsider was when I had some friends come over and they all saw the rust and went “you’re not going to fix this are you?” because they didn’t think it was worth it. Every time I found new rust I thought of giving up, but what kept me going, was knowing that there wasn’t another one out there to buy, and there still hasn’t been one in my price range for MONTHS.

That was awesome.
I had an E24 that broke its distributor rotor while I was crossing a busy street. It half-ran for another block or two, backfiring badly, before totally quitting. Basically the same thing your Datsun did. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong, the rotor didn’t come off, the guide just broke, so nothing was visibly wrong until I realized I could spin the rotor freely.
Also, Westside road is great, and driving through the Rockies is one of my favourite things. It’s really cool to see more western Canada on YouTube.

It baffled us for a few hours! It was a great road, apparently there was some construction a few miles up it, so we would have had to go back anyway. Figures.

yeah, i heard the mention of $2000 purchase price. i was asking, because there always is that moment when you objectively look at a project and realize that you are honestly better off walking away, and either parting it out, or using it for a parts car.
but hey, after you have put cars like your datsun back together, with nothing more than your own cardboard templates........ the rest is cake. you also KNOW how much time is truly involved in putting one back right again. knowing how much effort is involved in fixing a rustbucket, is usually what it takes to keep from taking on a project that you are not particularly passionate about.
how is that mustang looking?

Yeah it was cheap enough to turf if it was too terrible, but rare enough that I couldn’t! I haven’t even seen the Mustang with my own eyes yet! Haha, but Cletus has, and it sounds a lot better than this one. Familiar sounding story eh? ;)

Both you guys need paint jobs and you looked pretty detailed during your metalwork. Go for it, you’ll save thousands (and probably get a better job than some commercial respray places)!

yeah, very familiar story . i have my own rusty package deal showing up in mid february, sight unseen, SUPPOSED to be mostly all there, great price.........hook, line, and sinker.......

I’m sure I will watch it with them, I did for the first episode, but for the first run through I want to be able to pay attention. The girls can be a little ... distracting :)
My four year old loves watching Roadkill. She always wants to watch the Stubby Bob episode. Or in her words, “Can we watch the one with the wheelie truck?” I think we’ve watched that one twelve times.

Finally found half an hour to watch it. My wife was nearby and kept looking over my shoulder and finally sat down and watched the whole thing with me from about 5 minutes in. And she normally ignores all the car-themed things I watch. Bravo!
