The Chevy Lumina from the most recent episode of Regular Car Reviews is for sale on eBay. Notably, it’s the *only* Chevy Lumina sedan on eBay Motors. Cash for Clunkers seems to have taken these oddly charming shitboxes out of circulation for the most part.

Check the license plate. Same car.

My grandad rented one when he was in the US and loved it. Said it was like a rolling sofa, but I suppose a lot of American cars, particularly of that era, would feel like that to someone used to Euro stuff.

We had one when I was a kit with 300k miles. Interior was in excellent condition other than the worn carpet (no floor mats). The switchgear was super clunky and satisfying and the seats were hilariously overstuffed cloth affairs.

I love how it’s being sold by a computer recycling company

For a little more there is now a clean white 1999 Lumina sedan on there too.

The second gen is pretty awful though.

The 1st Gen weren’t that great either in many aspects. If before mid 1990 they had the 15.9mm oil pickup tube and respectable pump. That generation were very prone to bearing issues, plus the intake leaks which caused oil and coolant mix. We put a lot of engines in those at the dealerships I’ve worked at.

Sounds like a perfect commuter car.

Mechanically whatever, but the 2nd gen interior and styling lost all the charm of the previous gen and the 1st gen seems to hold up better as far as the interior falling to pieces.

Let me try and put it another way. A nicer interior doesn’t do much good if the car doesn’t run. I’ve seen a lot of nice cars that needed engines in my 30+ yrs of working in shops. They usually sit in our back lot after being traded in on something that runs. After about 2-3 weeks they head to auction or to recycling.

Yeah but the ‘91-’95 3100 is pretty much bulletproof is it not? I’ve seen plenty of them running just fine with years and years of neglect and abuse.

Wow, only 6 photos? I’m always surprised when there’s insufficient photos or description on something as large as a vehicle.

Oh yes, after the oil pickup size went to 19mm the 3100 engines were so much better. I had a 92' Cavalier RS 3.1 wagon that was a tank. It went to 178k after I sold it with 124k to the second owner. I had done just a few suspension, wheel and engine tweaks to it. The second owner who I knew through work had 3 parts stores and bought the car intending for it to be a parts car. Once he bought it and it ran so well he parked his Pontiac SSEI for two years and my old wagon became his commuter car until it started to rust some. It died a sad death when one of his employees hit the rear of an 18 wheeler in winter. They pulled the 3.1 engine and sold it as one of the few salvageable parts from the wreck. It had never used oil because I ran it on Mobil 1 before he bought it.

It’s in such nice condition. However, it’s also an early 1990s piece of GM trash, so CP. Oh, is that not the game we are playing?

Eh, it’s a well taken care of good condition cockroach of a car. NP all day long. A 3100 will run 300k miles without breaking a sweat.
