Idk. I mean it would be the right way to do it, but I’m sure you could just use some sheet metal. Riveting them in wouldn’t be right either, but it would make a floor. Assuming there enough solid material there to attach it to.

I did the same thing actually. I don’t live near this car, but I do live in the rust belt, and no there are no safety inspections here. Here are a couple trucks I’ve seen recently.
At least these are work vehicles, likely to hurt no one but their driver’s. I get angry whenever I see a kids in the back of a rusted out minivan.

That’s you problem right there. The big thing about this as a LeMons car is safety, and with that much rust I would doubt the integrity of any roll cage installed, as it would likely break free from the car in a hard impact (which is why you should always attach your racing seat and harness to the cage, not the vehicle).

My Uncle who lived in north Minneapolis had an S-10 that looked pretty similar to that. He was going to give it to some one when he moved, but a day before he left it was involve in a very low speed accident in stop and go traffic. It curled up like a ball front and back. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt, but that truck was on the road waaaay part it’s time.

That’s the thing that amazes me about driving around in such a rusty vehicle. They fold up like a beer can in an accident. That’s why I get angry whenever I see a family in a minivan with rusted out rocker panels. I didn’t get a picture, but I saw one the other day that I couldn’t believe didn’t collapse under its own weight. I got rid of the Roadmaster because it had a hole in the base of the B-pillar, and I didn’t want my daughter to get hurt.

Less of a chance of it actually breaking free and exiting the car, more like the cage breaks loose and crushes the driver. By attaching yourself to the cage, there’s no chance of you getting between the cage and the car during a hard impact/roll situation.
