There is a Subaru place that’s pretty prolific for this and you’ll see Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, and many more with this Subaru dealer’s sticker on the back.

Because there’s no Mazda dealer in town. The Honda dealer had the only used Mazda3 with a stick.

Because a good deal on a used car is a good deal.

Because trade-ins that aren’t specific to that dealer’s makes but are too nice to send to auction are often kept and sold at decent prices.

Probably used. If new it was likely sold from a chain and in storage at the different make’s dealer at the time of sale.

Whenever I buy a car I always ask for the dealer to remove any stickers/badges/tag frames. Most people don’t care about these things.

Yeah they are certainly used cars that have been traded in.

The only issue is the people preparing them for sale do not have the make’s expertise to know what to look for.... and recalls may not have been completed.

The latter’s changed quite a bit lately, but I’d still take it to the dealer that knows the car and have them look it over before buying.

Oh yeah. Definitely. I can’t speak from experience since both of our Mazdas were bought from Mazda dealers and the S10 was a private party sale. But I do see a lot of odd cars as trade-ins at dealers that don’t sell and/or service that make.

Dealers tend to sell whatever used cars they have instead of trying to get ones from a specific brand.

I understand this. I’m trying to understand what makes a person walk into a Chevy dealership and roll out with a Jeep.

I can top this. My parents often buy cars from shady buy-here-pay-here lots. They do it because to be honest, they have no way of telling if they’re getting screwed or if they’re buying a car that isn’t going to fall apart on them.

Their current car is a 2011 Ford Expedition EL with 155,000 miles. Looking at KBB, this think is only worth $8.5k (being generous since there’s some rust already all over the tailgate and someone painted the front bumper with toothpaste). They’re paying $20k not including whatever insane APR they got.

I spent about six months watching the internet for the right Jeep at the right price. It finally showed up at a Ford dealership. I don’t give a shit what the sign on the front of the building says, I treated it like buying a used car from anyone else, and got the ride i wanted at the price I could stand.

I read this without paying attention to who posted it. I was going to respond with a WTF, then I saw you were the poster and recalled your other posts. Things suddenly fell into place for me at that point. Sorry for everything you have to deal with!

Because the BMW I wanted was not at a BMW dealership, so I went to a Ford dealership to buy it.

Aww, danke :) I love you guys/gals!

Truth be told, life is finally on the gosh darned upswing for me, so it’s easier to look back at my parents and be amused as opposed to being depressed.

Still though, $20k for an $8k car, how is that even legal?

My buddy is looking for an midsize SUV for himself. He’s looking at a Mercedes ML that was traded into an Audi dealer and a BMW X5 that was traded into a Porsche dealer. Not uncommon at all.

If I’m looking for a used Jeep and a used Jeep at the right price with the options I’m looking for is at a Chevy dealer.

I bought my NC from a kia dealer, just saw it on cars.com and the price was good enough, loaded manual NCs were surprisingly hard to find.

I bought my Honda Fit from a BMW dealership. I’d been scoping out used second-gen Fits in my area on Autotrader and decided this particular one was worth a look based on the price, mileage, color, condition, and service history.

Your parents are really something else. Do they have a bunch of loans rolled up to make that $20k?

Kinja'd!!! "Mercedes Streeter" (smart)
01/31/2017 at 09:07, STARS: 0

Nope, the car was priced at $20k and they never even questioned it. lol So, just one nice loan with god knows how much interest.

At least this time they didn’t get it from a place that puts those stupid starter interlocks in their cars.
