OK fine, the X6, X4 and GLE Coupe are unsightly turds, they are guilty for that.
But they were NOT the first one to apply coupe to 4 doors.

It was actually Rover with the P5. If anything, “coupé” was derived from French meaning “cut”. So in reality it just means a chopped roof.

Not just that, the Rover was even badged as a coupe:

And blame the SUV “coupe” to both Pontiac and Ssangyong:

You know you brought up a good point.
And what a coincidence the Aztek has two nostrils like a BMW, and the Ssangyong has a Mercedes-esque grille. X6 and GLE coupe are direct replacements for the Aztek and Actyon...

For reasons I can’t explain I’m ok with the X4 and GLEC but don’t like the X6.

Well yes, but the Rover actually looks good.

Quirky designs and bold colours generally work better on smaller cars. 5GT is puke-o-rama but 3GT doesn’t look bad.
Except for the Juke. That is not okay, big or small.

Aren’t all those cars you mentioned “crossovers” of some type? I think my favourite four-door coupe is still the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe. The four-door version of a two-door version of a four-door car worked out well in my opinion. The front still looks a bit funny to me but that side profile is excellent.

Well the focal point was being “coupés” must be 2-doors.

I think the X6 is actually more tolerable than the X4. But the GLC does outclass them both.

Fun fact- Ralph Gilles used the P5 as inspiration for the ‘05 Chrysler 300.
