Look how thick it is! Not quite clay *coughDEX-COOLcough*, more like a heavy grease.

I would say head gasket failure, but I’m mystified by how there could be *that much* oil and oil accessories in the coolant. Maybe oil cooler in the radiator failed?

It’s a 12V Cummins by the looks of it, so lots of thick oil and lots of coolant.

Oil is lighter than water (or coolant), even though it’s thicker, so it eventually finds it way to the top of the cooling system. If he let more flow out, the oil would transition to dirty coolant.

My bet is oil cooler failure. Injector cup failures on old Powerstrokes will cause something similar, although more frequently with fuel.

Yep. Difference between density and viscosity. Still impressed by the quantity. The thread for this on Reddit did actually provide more detail: an oil cooler failure leading to a head gasket failure - so high pressure half-burnt oil creeping into a cooling system which was busily ejecting coolant. Yay.
