It r broke.

Kinja'd!!!

Left it charging while Pokemon GO was running, came back to it an hour later and the screen was froze. I couldn’t exit the game or switch apps or anything so I restarted the phone.

And this is as far as it gets. I can get into the menu for Safe Mode/Factory Reset/Power Down but that’s it. No matter what I choose I end up back at this screen. Except Power Down. Or off. Whatever. THAT works.

Took it to Verizon and they were like “Yup, its broke, lol. $150 and you can get a new one.”

I’m gonna try to revive it at work tomorrow via a PC software update thingy, but if all else fails I guess I’ll go the new phone route. I’ll be DAMNED if I’m gonna pay that much for it though. I’ve been with Verizon for 10+ years, never had a phone issue like this (out of warranty, no insurance) or ANY problem with this phone in the nearly two years I’ve had it, and literally JUST added a third phone to our account for my daughter.

(Monday Morning Edit)

I tried to plug it in at work to my PC and the driver install failed. The recovery software is ON THE PHONE so while chatting with Verizon they said it would be impossible to try and recover, BUT, since I have 12 years of history with them, they will send out a warranty replacement to me tomorrow, even though my warranty is expired and I has no insurance.

YAY.

Mine did this and Verizon was able to fix it for free. I don’t know.

Sounds like it is being a typical LG. My LG G4 crapped out last fall.

Same thing happened to Mrs McMike’s HTC last month.

It would get stuck during startup, and no matter how many times we did a factory reset or a ROM install via USB, it would shit the bed, and return to that stuck state within a few days.

She has also been with Sprint for 10+years, and she was screwed. No insurance, no warranty, no dice. She had to get another device and (for the first time) did the lease deal. We’re not sure what her bill will look like, but it will probably be high until her 2 year plan on the broken device runs its course.

These things we carry are are fucking expensive. Every time I’m reminded of that I wonder why anyone let;s a teenager out of the house with one of them. “Here honey, take this $700 device, and don’t loose it or break it, OK?”

Yeah with this phone it was my first lease... $16 per month but with the plan it was less than I was paying for the phone that I ran through the laundry by mistake...

Those Moto Droids sure looked nice though, with all thier fancy attachments. And at $13.00 per month my bill would be cheaper. Too bad I “owe” $50.00 on my current phone, there’s a $60 activation fee, and I’d have to pay the ~$30 in tax on the Droid.

I had 8 years with Verizon on my own account and another dozen with my dad’s plan...meant shit.

When the Pixel was coming out I knew I’d be getting the phone so I bought it outright (no subsidized on Big Red anymore, anyways) and swapped to Project Fi. Best thing I ever did. My last two months have been $24 and change each.

Fuck Verizon.

I don’t mind the monthly bill. I get a hefty discount through work, and for the most part they take care of me and my wife when there’s an issue. I just have to cry a little.

It was hit and miss with me...primarily a miss. It all started going downhill when they bumped unlimited costs, got rid of old plans and made me roll my family plan into one of their new models. I put together the math for reps both in person and on the phone about how the changes would cost me a thousand dollars more per year.

It was frustrating that I was better versed in their plans than they were. The phone reps were always more helpful but that never translated to much help. I didn’t hang up pissed off, just disappointed.

Far happier on Fi because haven’t had a drop in call quality or reception and the bill is so low it’s absurd. That last point is moot though for you...so smoke if you got’em.

I dropped Verizon about a year and a half ago because I wanted more data but their plans at the time were too expensive. I have a 10 GB for $55 Cricket plan and my wife has a 5 GB for $45 Straight Talk plan.

Cricket blocks tethering whenyou bring your own device, and has an 8 Mbps download speed limit. I didn’t know either of these things when I signed up but nobody else offers this much data on a single line for this cheap. Well, MetroPCS does but the T-Mobile network in WI is terrible.

Straight Talk doesn’t have those problems but they don’t offer any plan above 5 GB and don’t have visual voicemail. That can be fixed with a third party service like YouMail.

I don’t tether very often and if we’re traveling together I use her phone to tether as needed.

Both of these plans use the AT&T network which is mostly fine but some of the more rural parts of WI aren’t covered. When we drove up to Minnesota last fall the was a good chunk of the trip with no coverage.

Fast forward to now, and Verizon’s revised plans aren’t too bad, plus I get an 18% discount through my current job. We could get 16 GB shared for roughly what we pay now, and have the Verizon network with none of our current compromises.

The only thing holding us back is while my Moto X Pure works fine on Verizon, her ZTE ZMAX 2 is unlocked but GSM only. I only got it for her a year ago, not thinking we’d have an inclination to switch to Verizon anytime soon. She’s still happy with how it works for her, so why buy another phone?

I’m still kinda tempted to pick up an unlocked Moto G4 or something similar for her, but not exactly a huge priority at the moment.
