Catching up on Alpine downhill. Friday, there was an extra race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to make up for the Wengen cancellation.
French skier, Valentin Giraud Moine had a horrific crash - looked like he caught an edge in the compression following the 95% Freefall section.
Two broken legs.

I race ski cross at the pro-am level currently trying to get a place on the national devo team for Canada. Always rough seeing bad spills but it’s all about the risks we take.

Fortunately, I’ve never had a bad ski injury - bounced my shoulder properly hard once but that’s it. My breaks/tears were all bikes and skating. If I didn’t come from the wrong end of the UK (and the wrong decade), I’m pretty sure I’d have been slamming into slalom pistes far too often... always loved the feeling of bite when you got a clean turn. Carvers came out far too late for me. All too fragile now.
Good luck with the cross. I’ve been perpetually jealous of anyone with a snowy upbringing.

I was watching that live and I remember how they showed the replay and then were like, oh, that’s bad let’s not show that again. You can hear it in the announcer’s voice, he’s one of the best regular commentators for Eurosport and for ski racing in particular. He just moves on and amazingly there was no major hold on the course but yeah, that guy’s season is over.
