So, Old Man CB is looking at something to replace his Edge (it’s a 2010 or so with 244k kilometres and a rusting hood). He’s looking at a longer drive (about 100 kilometres a day) and wants something a bit more economical. He’d like AWD and a higher seating position, but the higher seating position is probably debatable. Decent fuel economy would be nice. He likes the look of the F-Pace, but thinks it’d be too slow for his liking. So, any suggestions? Personal experiences are welcome

The F-Pace is one of the lighter CUV’s of it’s size, I would test it out before writing it off for being slow.

Dude, Alltracks are stupid expensive. I suggested the Q5 and GLC to him (RIP the GLK), but he’s not a big Q5 fan.

He’s also looking at the diesel and was watching videos of it drag racing other vehicles. So I’m putting it in the “maybe” pile.

Acura will be coming out with an MDX Sport Hybrid soon. It’ll have similar hybrid tech to the NSX and the 918.

It’s a $35k Golf wagon. I’ll suggest it to him and we’ll check it out at the auto show, but I don’t know how he’ll feel about it.

price range?
Of course, there’s the grand Cherokee SRT8 and the upcoming hellcat equivalent, if he can afford it. And no worrying about being too slow :p
The Focus RS also has AWD depending on how debatable the high seating position is. I know the Mk1 Focus has a high seating position, but I don’t know too much about the Mk3. And even with the RS, gas mileage shouldn’t be too bad if he drives like, you know, and old man :p

Under $75k CAD seems to be the limit of it at the moment. I suggested the Focus RS, and he thinks the drift mode button is awesomely ridiculous.

Cadillac XT5? Though if the F-Pace is too slow then the naturally aspirated XT5 definitely will be.
Porsche Macan maybe?

I suggested the Macan, and he seemed iffy about it. XT5 didn’t come up in the discussion, but we’ll probably look at one at the auto show next month.
