Hey, Oppo, what summer tires should I go with?

I’m currently stuck in the quiet hell that is the months where my Focus ST must wear its set of Blizzaks, but I am pretty sure that by late summer the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics it came with will need replacing. They’re excellent tires, there’s no doubt about that, but they’re also hugely expensive assymetric tires with a so-so treadwear rating, and the price has only gone up since I first bought the car.

I’m leaning towards Michelin Pilot Super Sports, since they’re cheaper, longer lasting, and if they’re good enough for the RS, they’re good enough for my ST. Any other recommendations to consider?

Yokohama Ad08... Great performance that do a good job in the rain too. If you REALLY don’t care about threadwear, Yokohama A050 are great tires all around too...

(Don’t expect them to be awesome in the rain, they are not. They do a decent job though.)

Treadwear is only a concern if it’s worse than the Eagle F1s I’m currently running. Thankfully wet performance isn’t that big of an issue, since I live in Connecticut, and drivers here react to rain the way drivers in the south should react to snow: they slow WAY THE FUCK DOWN, meaning I’ll only be doing like 45 in the wet at any given moment, tops.

I love my MPSS, quite possibly the best tires I’ve ever used. I will be ordering another set when the time comes!

The PSS is going to be your best overall choice for a DD when you want grip and need rain traction, even if it’s occasionally.

PSS will be a great tire. They have great grip, wet and dry, and wear very well. I had A048s before which were terrifying above 40mph in the rain, new tires every 5k miles, but awesome dry grip.

I’ve also had star specs, and I think the PSS are subjectively better. Quieter with similar grip levels.

As an aside, Michelin is beginning to replace the super sports with the Pilot Sport 4S this year.

I’ve got there PSS on my GTI. They are amazing tires and have tons of grip. Very quiet tire as well which is as plus.

PSS / PS4 all the way. After trying tons of tires on many different cars. I exclusively run PSS now, almost the performance of r888 (or similar) but with way better wear / weather

I keep hearing good things about Federal 595's on Matt Farah’s One Takes, and I’ve had good luck with my Nexen SU1's, but the SUR4 is supposed to be more aggressive (and easier to find).

But I would only consider those if you’re on a budget.
