Tried replacing my carpet, totally fucked it up, buying an EP3 carpet instead

So, I found some red carpeting for $10, said to myself, hey, I can probably toss this in the GA3, and if I fuck it up, well, no big loss. Well, I fucked it up. The non-molding of it didn’t work at all, I left myself what I thought was enough edging to trim it and fit it, I didn’t. My hole measurements were all wrong. All in all, it was a disaster. It’s in, but it looks awful, torn up, not good at all.

So since I can’t custom order it, I’m going with the next closest thing, I’m getting an EP3 Type-R carpet and going to try to fit that in. It looks like things match up closely enough.

Yeah, I’ve unfortunately gone down that road too. Fit like hell, even after using a heat gun to try to get it to lay down better.

Also, if you need to add small holes for seat bolts and such, using a hot soldering iron is a tip that an interior shop showed me. Works great at not creating a raggedy hole.

Well, I utterly destroyed this carpet, and I’ve already put in the order for the EP3 carpet. I just need them to get back to me on shipping. Right now, the shipping is set up for US or AUS, and I’m not going to pay $95 in shipping for something in Saitama when my car is in Saitama. I sent a message to the seller saying, “will pay for normal post, or will drive up and collect in person.”

That’s a nice looking manifold.

This is why I’ve chosen to just go with bedliner in the pinto.

now the only question is, why did you choose to go with a Pinto? lol I had one once. Actually had a lot of fun with it. Never got rear ended, it didn’t stop fast enough for anybody to rear-end me. baa ha ha. good times.

years ago i took out the carpet in my ‘68 firebird. it was old and ratty and had holes and had to go. i bought enough replacement oem factory carpet *from a roll* to replace it.

i could have purchased the same carpet formed for about $50 more (cannot recall if it was oem or not) but i figured i would save the money. i had a horrible time trying to get something flat to resemble something formed. i finally got it to where it was as good as i could make it and drove it that way. never again.

ps oddly enough i gained an appreciation for the perspective problem between flat maps and globes. the one good thing that came out of this exercise.

Did you measure your replacement from the original, or did you lay the old one on top of the new carpet and cut the shapes / holes that way?

I tried the second way, but with the molding, it didn’t work. It doesn’t matter much, the EP3 carpet should be here soon, and I think that’s going to work.
