If you see a Niva at a rest stop just east of Rugby, ND, please don’t wake me up.

Kinja'd!!!

Crossing the border went much more smoothly than I expected. At least it’s warm-ish.

I’m also still looking for couches:

I knew it! The Canadians have begun the invasion! We’re gonna build the wall on the wrong border!

(In an abundance of caution, let me add this disclaimer that this is a joke and that you know I like ya, gog!) ^_^

Lol. It’s too late. I’m already here, continuing a proud trend of just showing up and politely asking for the gate to go up, and trying hard not to mention the war.

If you happened to be passing near Nova Scotia, I’d gladly lend a couch....but you’re a bit in the wrong direction :P

Good luck finding spaces to crash, and enjoy the rally! Looking forward to a play by play when you write it up! :D

Good luck with the rally fella.

Be careful, on the rally and sleeping in the car, I’m on a different continent to help I’m afraid.

Per Ardua ad Astra.

I need to make some adjustments on the sleeping procedure, yeah. This metal box loses heat quickly.

Some insulation foil taped over the side and rear windows will help or on as many surfaces as you can. Ye’, those Ladas were never warm vehicles, friends father had one as a work vehicle out in Poland.

Make sure it’s well ventilated for carbon monoxide to escape. It sounds obvious and some say needless but the amount of people who, shall we say, sleep the eternal sleep, because they’ve went to sleep in the car and not thought about it. Try not to eat a large or heavy meal an hour or so before going to bed, your body will divert energy into processing the food and your extremities will suffer.

Also, be safe. let people know where you are and keep checking in.

It’s not cold enough that I’m concerned about it, it’s only around -10°C, and I’m the kind of guy who still goes camping at -40, so no big deal. I’ll just need to crawl into my sleeping bag instead of curling up under a blanket. The heater actually works very well, but I’m not leaving the engine running while asleep due to carbon monoxide fears, as you said.
