Update - Two rounds with a heat station have it up and running...For now. I expect it to be short lived, but I got my data

——————————-

I’d post a pic, but I don’t have anything to do that with.....

LG G4, must have gotten too hot. Now it’s stuck in a boot loop. It’s likely that a solder point cracked or melted under the processor. I tried reflowing the processor with a hairdryer, but it’s not hot enough. I have a heat gun at the office, but I’m not going in on the weekend for that. I’ll try baking the mother board in the oven in the morning.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll try the heat gun, or send it through a reflow oven.

I really hate technology some times.

Reflowing it isn’t going to fix it. The g4 has a known issue where it flexes and eventually one of the components actually breaks free from the board, often taking the pads with it. This causes a boot loop as the phone fails to post. Only fix is a replacement motherboard, though you might as well just replace the phone as you aren’t going to be getting your data back. Mine suffered the same fate as yours has.

You post pics with potatoes not phones, silly.

My Nexus 5X just had the same issue. My phone wasn’t even warm; it was sitting idle for probably 20 minutes, I went to check Instagram, and it bootlooped. Good old LG phones.

But if heat doesn’t work for you, try cooling it down! I put my phone in a plastic bag in the fridge/freezer and that combo let it reboot and work long enough to back data up! I’m not sure why it worked for me, but my best guess is that it got the boards to shrink enough to fix the connection in the board temporarily. Hopefully something works for you!

I’m hopeful, as it wasn’t flexed, it was sitting flat.

If I can’t fix it, I’ll do more than that

It’s not a one time event. It happens slowly over time as you handle the phone. I was just holding mine when it gave up the ghost.

I’ve forgone the oven, instead opting to use a heat station. I’ll know for sure by the end of the day. I just need it to hold out long enough to get my data.

Then I’m going to go raise he’ll with LG. It is 6 days out of warranty.

that’s the very reason why I skipped the G4 and bought a 9/10 rated G5 of the Bay of e for a little more than $200.00 to replace my G3.

But I’m on Sprint. A Nexus 5X or 6P or Huawei might be a reasonable replacement if you’re on AT&T or T-Mobile.
