Specifically on the front quarter panel.

Kinja'd!!!

Something this one doesn’t have.

Kinja'd!!!

Could it be a GT badge? Or even a rehashed Type-S badge?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It also looks like it has different exhaust, and a diffuser?

I’m calling it right now: 3.5 V6T and SH-AWD.
Japan’s Audi S4.

I kind of preferred the last iteration of the beak, as long as they cleaned it up a bit. Hell, the very first iteration of the beak could have worked had they designed the rest of the car around it.

Kinja'd!!!

Just looks like a TL with a toucan’s beak on it.

It seems like the design has hurt you on some emotional level.

Turbos from Acura? On a v6!? HA! I doubt that highly with the way Acura is going. They feel very much like the upmarket Subaru, without the WRX, because they focus on their staid dynamics and AWD.

Not an unreasonable assumption.

Well they took a good looking car and made it ugly, so there’s that.

I don’t recall anyone on Jalopnik or even on here saying they liked the beak.

Is that a pace car accord or a concept study?

It’s the Accord IndyCar safety car. It has a Frankenstein 3.5 V6 with, among a few modifications, an RLX crankshaft and a turbocharger. It was actually really good on the track. IndyCar drivers were saying they were struggling to keep up with it.

I still stand by my quip to a point. Acura is still very slow to change, they are excellent cars if that’s what you’re looking for. They just don’t seem to make engines for the sake of being quick and sporty, they make well rounded/engineered engines that happen to be put in cars with sporty intentions. This is all out the window with the NSX, although it comes in close, and anything aimed at a racing series.

I tweaked the top photo a bit - that badge appears to be the same “A-Spec” badge that you can find on Canadian-market ILXs equipped with the A-Spec package. It’s basically a sport appearance package.

If the TLX gets a sportier model, I’d bank on that being a TLX Sport Hybrid which makes use of the RLX Sport Hybrid powertrain.

Well to be fair, what was once the major selling point for a Civic Type-R/Si, hell even a normal Civic, was the high-revving naturally-aspirated I4 engine. Now it seems like they’re going turbocharged on everything. And yeah the old NSX wasn’t really a “super” car in terms of performance, but the new one really is, without a doubt, a supercar.

If Acura wants to have a sports sedan and were serious about competing in that market, they’d turbocharge a V6.

I don’t know. The A-Spec badge looks a lot smaller than what I’m seeing in the spyshots. There’s also a second badge on the trunklid, which the A-Spec ILX doesn’t have. And if they wanted just an appearance package, I doubt they’d go so far as adding a diffuser. And those wheels don’t look funky, which means this car probably means business.

The Sport Hybrid setup doesn’t get enough love around here. It’s basically the same as what you get on the Porsche 918.

Agreed! Infiniti did it with the Q50 and that seemed to breathe a little life into the company. Acura would do well to do the same if they truly want the TLX to be a “sport” sedan. Although it’d be nice if they offered SH-AWD on the I4 or threw some carbon fiber at the interior (I personally can’t stand wood unless it feels/looks like wood).

It could always be a different-sized badge, and the badge on the trunk seems to read A-something-or-other.

I agree that the car’s overall appearance seems to be more performance-focused while not carrying the usual flashy bits-and-bobs that Honda/Acura likes to throw on, sort of like the difference between the upcoming Civic Si and regular up-level Civics. This could be good.

I’ve been wanting to see a TLX Sport Hybrid for some time now.
