Seems like there’s a lot of photo/tech enthusiasts here, and there’s a little known part of Leica history that’s relevant today. The founder of Leica, Ernest Leitz II, along with his daughter, helped smuggle out many Jews from Nazi Germany in the 1930s, ostensibly transferring them to Leica offices worldwide. He would pay them until they found work locally, and also gave them a new camera in case they had any sudden financial needs. Estimates vary on how many people he saved, ranging from dozens to nearly 1000. You can read more in this article from the Guardian:
