AKA “It’s Friday and I just don’t wanna work anymore so let’s do an Oppo survey”

Kinja'd!!!

There is no stop sign for our direction, yet people constantly stop or “stop” at the intersection. Not to mention that they don’t seem to be able to turn the corner without cutting it (odd angle). So, as their corner-cutting gives me room... I’ve started to “demonstrate” the correct method of using the intersection in behind them. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but as long as there’s no other traffic I continue to do it.

Now Oppo’s bad habits. Go.

my bad habit: I turn into the closest lane when making a turn, even when cars are turning from the other direction. Now, should we both follow the rules and turn into our closest lane we can both do this at the same time. But I KNOW that 98.356% of other drivers will not do this, and they will attempt to occupy my lane and I will eventually have a crash. And I will be a sanctimonious jerkhole about it.

If I see someone speeding behind me waiting for a lane or a gap in traffic to open I’ll do my best to keep them back there, or prevent them from merging ahead of me.

99% of the time they DO get by me, I catch up to them at the next red light anyways.

THEN I STARE INTO THEIR SOUUUULLLLL

There is an old people fancy restaurant at the very beginning of my street. I know that when there is a Cadillac (mainly), Lincoln, or German luxobarge approaching, it’s a patron of said restaurant. They never know where they’re going, even if they do they’re off put by the “valet”only sign at the main entrance.

They don’t signal and jam on their brakes when they see they have missed, or are about to miss the entrance. So on my way home from work if I end up behind on of these geriatric fucks, I’m as ready as a god damned mantis shrimp to hit that horn. One driver got so scared they just drove over the bushes in between the entrance and exit.

Maybe I should signal left on entry just to see what people do.

right. I’m following the rules. But I can SEE that others are not, which means I am not driving defensively. I have a game I play with the oblivious. On i275 S there are multiple signs which states the left land (Fast lane) turns into i375 and all other lanes head to the Skyway Bridge to southern Florida.
Well, many folks don’t see these signs till they see their road go off on a bend away from traffic. So they will slow down, try and merge or merge aggressively.
I will posture myself beside them, slowing down to get the giant curve at the recommended speed.
I call it “Welcome to St. Pete”. I’ve dragged many oblivious folks into my city because they refused to get out of the fast lane, which after a certain point should be addresses as StPete residents only lane.

There is a four-lane 35 mph roadway (2 lanes in each direction) in town where EVERYONE defaults to the left lane. I use the right lane a LOT for passing. And sometimes I like to add a slight detour to my commute by choosing to make a left turn...

It’s a fairly busy street, with no center turn lane, so I have to stop in the left lane and wait for oncoming traffic to clear. And EVERY TIME I do this, I get a line of cars behind me who don’t seem to care that the right lane is WIDE OPEN. They just stop and wait.

What makes this a bad habit is that I don’t actually need to turn left at that point. I’m only doing this to persuade other drivers that maybe the left lane isn’t such a great place to hang out ALL THE DAMN TIME.

I can’t help but smile when I see somebody four or five cars behind me get all pissed off and jump into the right lane, passing the few cars between us. Then that smile disappears when he IMMEDIATELY jumps back into the left lane after passing me, and stays in that lane without ever turning left as he disappears into the distance.

You shouldn’t be changing lanes in the roundabout in the first place though.

Kinja'd!!! "TheRealBicycleBuck" (therealbicyclebuck)
01/27/2017 at 11:54, STARS: 1

It depends on the state. Texas, for example, does not require people turning left to turn into the leftmost lane unless there are pavement markings or signs requiring it.

People who turn left onto the same roadway at the same time I am turning right really tick me off. I have the right of way and if my next move is to move left in preparation for a left turn, they are effectively blocking the lane. It’s right there in the statutes:

Louisiana Revised Statutes 32:122§122. Vehicle turning left at intersection

The driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending to turn to the left shall yield the right of way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard.

It’s amazing to me how often it happens down here. Given that they aren’t legally bound to stay in the leftmost lane after turning, I never know when they intend to cut across traffic to make a right-hand turn after making their left. I’ve had a number of near-misses when some jackhole turns left then expects me to yield the right lane because “they were there first”. No, jackhole, I am not required to yield the lane just because you want to turn right. If you really wanted to go to Walmart, why didn’t you go straight through the intersection and turn left into their parking lot at the next light?

You can get really sneaky about it, too. Sometimes while driving in the right lane, I’ll trap someone next to me so that they find themselves behind a car that’s been spending too much time in the left lane. My hope is that their rage will be focused on the lane hog and not at me.

Is there a traffic control device (stop or yield) in the other direction? If not it’s an uncontrolled intersection which should be treated like a four-way yield, basically the same as a four-way stop but without the requirement of actually stopping. Slowing down in case you need to yield is a good idea, stopping obviously isn’t though. Friggen stupid concept, though, as if you aren’t familiar with the intersection there’s no way to know you might have to yield to another driver. Stoon did away with their uncontrolleds while I was living there after a school bus hit someone... bus driver was in the wrong.

There are a few intersections in Seattle where a bus stops on the near side of an intersection on a multi-lane arterial. If I’m making a right turn, and there’s a bus stopped at the bus stop, I will *always* get behind the bus and wait in line before turning. Because I see this all the time: A vehicle trying to turn right will pass the bus on the left, then cut in front of the bus just as the bus starts moving again. Ever since driver’s ed, I have it tattooed on my brain that I can *only* turn right from the right-most lane. Sometimes I have to use my horn on the assholes cutting me off by turning from the left lane.
