I can’t stand reading the front page anymore.

I’m going to try and resist going to the front page for a good while. If it did not consist of shared posts with one sided political shit and actually returned to original Jalopnik auto related content or similar then there would be no issue.

Now I see foxtrot alpha is on the bandwagon too. At least I have The War Zone for actual military related posts.

I’m sorry to hear that, I often enjoy your posts regardless of any difference of opinion. I understand your decision though, I’ve seen you take some undeserved shit in the comments more than once. While I don’t think that behavior represents Oppo as a whole, I completely agree that political acrimony has reached new and unfortunate heights here, and that it’s typically very one sided. The entire Kinjasphere, Oppo included is extremely liberal most of the time.

I consider myself a moderate and I never completely pledged my support to Trump for obvious reasons. Still, I live in a very liberal area and most of my friends and coworkers are extremely liberal. Yet, I still deal with it because I don’t fucking care about it.

HOWEVER, now that he’s president it’s time to hope he does well. In the end, we’re the people living in this country and we’re the people Trump impacts. People can talk all the shit they want on the internet, but in the end America chose Trump and we need to hope for the best. What people say on a car website doesn’t matter, those are just opinions.

With that being said, my advice to you would be to suck it up. Hate to put it that way, but political shitposting is never gonna end. People are gonna have opinions and people are gonna say them. There’s no way around it. Again, don’t judge people based on their politics and just learn to live with it. That’s what I’ve done my entire life and it’s worked fine for me.

It’s always been hard being a liberal car guy. Especially old cars like I like. Dudes into classics have always been generally older and so skew to the right side of the political spectrum. At car meets, when politics came up, I was always the one calling everyone else crazy for their George W. Bush worship and desire to pave the Earth. But, we’d always laugh it off and get back to talking about making parts for obscure German microcars, or some such nonsense. Here it’s the opposite (it’s right in the name) and, since you’re a bunch of whippersnappers, I’m the one agreeing with the majority. Which is cool for me, but in the end we’re all still just car guys and gals. If you’re sick of fighting with people about things you disagree with; stop, and engage us in subjects we all agree on. Or, leave. Whatever.

Before you peace out of here, consider this - you will be doing both of us a disservice and your action represents what is wrong with America: our goddamn bubbles.

You leaving here means one more straw on the camel’s back of polarization and contempt of differences. Oppo has no rule about “political shitposting,” only that we don’t be dicks about it. Instead of leaving and thickening both of our bubbles, why not stay and engage? Why not encourage other conservative car guys to come and engage? I’m horrified by what Trump is doing to our country. I don’t blame you; I don’t post my politics here because this is (well was) a fantastic escape from all the world’s problems, including political (except the 25-year-rule and front license plates). Jalopnik started going downhill not long before the election (and has gotten quite bad, especially with all the new authors) and it’s crept in here too in the past few weeks.

As I skim through the new posts to peruse what may be new and interesting so many of the posts are making off-hand political statements and comments, and like most things on the internet there’s a site-wide circle-jerk of one side of the argument. I’ve seen similar both on “my side” and against what I agree in different places, and in no case does it do anyone any good (including the hosting website, which loses traffic as it alienates half its audience).

I wish you the best - hopefully things clear up here and it gets back to being about, oh I don’t know, cars or something without the little attacks and insults slipped in to every article and comment.

I’m what you could categorize as right of center. There’s a lot of stuff that people say on here that I disagree with. Unless it’s firearm related I keep it to myself. Largely because there was a time I argued with people online about politics and it never goes anywhere productive.

I usually read the shitposts and then laugh about it. You may find it hard to ignore them and not get drawn in and I get that.

I recommend a sabatical from the interwebs. It’s pretty much a dumpster fire everywhere.

Ooops, I feel like I might have had a part in this.

My latest comments were not nice. I get that, I just have disdain for anything wall related thats going to cost us (12-15) billions for no real gain in security. When at the same time it took Flint a year to find funds to replace lead pipes .... and they only got the bare minimum funding (170 million).
