“The Demon will wear 315-width drag radials in the back and in the front... Also, it’s most certainly not all-wheel-drive—that’s not what an AWD burnout looks like.”

I’m hoping that this is R&T being idiots. In my mind it makes more sense that they’d have AWD with a “burnout mode” that decouples the front axle... but, then again, it is Dodge we’re talking about.

(Clarification: I’m saying that putting giant slicks up front but not having AWD would be dumb)

I don’t know. The hood is pretty high up, if this spy shot is to be believed.

I’m just saying that putting drag radials on the front but not driving them is dumb.

Someone on the FP (I think yamahog) pointed out that Dodge couldn’t fit a transfer case under the Hemi engine. But if that spy shot is accurate, the hood seems to be higher than usual, probably to accommodate a transfer case.

I feel like there are about 12 billion better things FCA could’ve R&D’d than dumping all this widebody, drag radial shit into an almost 10 year old car on a platform that’s a mishmash of properly ancient Mercedes bits.

But, like you said, this is Dodge we’re talking about.

Exactly, I think they have absolutely no plan for the future. Part of me thinks they’re secretly being run by a coke’d up 13 year old boy in Florida.

Exactly why would you want the extra friction? Since they are drag radials you would assume this thing is setup for drag racing. I don’t know of any drag cars that run slicks on the front? Drag Radials certainly aren’t for turning as they have a very soft sidewall. They are making it AWD because they want to beat the Model S. I’m sure that really chapped their hide when they were beaten and they weren’t really beat by lack of power. There is no way to launch that thing at full bore. If they just use the Hellcat engine, the drivetrain swap will most certainly help their 60' times. If burnouts are all they are worried about, you can do a traditional burn out in an R33 and it’s AWD.

When FCA took over I genuinely saw a bit of hope for Chrysler. Two failed billion dollar investment cars, relying on SUVS, and nonsense like this, I don’t see it being but one big jump in gas prices from them going down the shitter again.

Maybe they meant 315 drag radials in back and just regular 315s in the front? I personally don’t think it’ll be AWD cause if they’ve saved over 200 lbs of weight they didn’t do it by adding AWD

What if it is not a drag car? No, no, hear me out. Tires are easy to change closer to launch and if the “more than 200 lbs. saved” ends up being closer to 400 lbs... well the current M5 is 4,387 and it is competent on the track. They could drop the 392 in and work the same kind of aero/suspension magic that made the ACR Viper so quick. Cost ends up being close to the Hellcat and Dodge has dual track/strip halo cars. Bonus points for using that Trackhawk thing you guys have sitting on the shelf over there...

Dodge had Nitto modify the compound and construction of the tire for the Demon. They should be better on the street compared to the stock version of the tire.
