At least Polanski is an (as far as I know) one time offender, over 40 years ago. Not that this makes what he did all right in any way, but he hasn’t continued what he did and isn’t vocal in any negative way either. He’s a great filmmaker who made one very huge sickening misstep a very long time ago. Gibson however...

The biggest difference is that you can argue that Polanski is, after 40+ years, not the same person now as he was back then. You can’t say the same about Gibson.
