What is your car named? And why?
My car, a 2016 Mazda6, is named “Sylvia.” Why? I wanted an “S” name since “six” starts with “S.” Sylvia came to mind for some reason. So, as we were leaving the dealership with her, the car became Sylvia the 6.
On the way home (we went to an out of town dealer because the local one is terrible), I had Pandora radio going and on the ‘80s Country station (don’t judge). This song came on:

I took that to mean I made the right choice with the name.

Now, for my truck. It’s a 1995 Chevrolet S10 LS 4x4. Finished in a faded patina of GM’s impossibly ‘90s color, Raspberry Metallic. My wife calls it pink, and I have to admit, it pretty much is.
So what is the truck’s name? Rizzo. Why? Pink truck, pink lady.

Z4 is El Zapatito. That word starts with Z and means “little shoe” for obvious reasons.
XC90 is EL Moose because of the Moose escudo (shield/coat of arms)

Two smarties have been named thus far:
Tucker (the 2012 W451): Named after Preston Tucker, my greatest hero. His story inspired me to become who I am today and do what I had to do in life to achieve my dreams. Interestingly, this connection to my identity is also why I don’t want to get rid of Tucker.
Phil (the 2016 W453): Named after Phil (either of them) from Groundhog Day. Miss Tesla and I came to the new name because we came to the realization that I’m probably going to own smarts...forever.

Rizzo is an awesome name for a car.
My Galant’s name is Lucy because I have an unhealthy crush on Scarlet Johansson, and I wanted an L name because my Wife’s car is named Louise after Louise from Bob’s Burgers. It even has a sticker of her bunny hat on the side window.

I named my 2013 Ford Escape Mattie after Matt Hardigree’s review in 2012. At that time I was on the fence between an Edge and this new Escape. Matt recommended the Escape to me. I’ve never regretted it.

Jellybean, because it looks like a Jelly Belly jellybean to me — tiny and sweet.
My last car was Squeaky, because the fake bolts on her wheel covers squeaked. It was a known issue with the car that could be fixed. Except every time you needed to take the tires off, it would happen again, so I stopped trying.

Solstice is called Kristin, because K for Kappa, her platform codename. Also at that time when I got her my childhood friend had a huge crush on a girl with the same name, so I just wanted to mess with him.
328i was to follow the same theme, platform name was F30, and I wanted to pick a Germanic name. Turns out there weren’t many, then I thought V and F are interchanged in the German language, and there was a link between the German and Nordic, so I went with Valka, because of How To Train Your Dragon (though technically they are more Scottish Nordic.)
My old G6 was named Sharon, after an actress from Hong Kong. For some reason I thought her character was cool in one of the dramas I was watching years ago.

My 97 maxima was named “Keikan!” which is translated from Japanese means, roughly “Cops!” or “Its the Cops!”. The reason for this is, in low light conditions with the headlights on, the headlight profile/outline bore surprising resemblance to the Ohio Highway Patrol Crown Victoria’s. I owned the car for about a year before they switched over to Chargers and in that year I couldn’t even count the times that people slammed on their brakes (even in empty straight stretches) near me, either in opposing traffic or in front of me. I even made a rapid U-turn once and began rapidly excelerating (I had taken the wrong road), and this guy in front of me pulls over to the side of the road, when I drove past him he had a confused look on his face and pulled out behind me again.

My family has had a number of “Big Reds” and “White Lightnings” all named ironically. My sister’s black and gold turbo sunbird was “the Dobermann”. My dear old grandma dubbed a 5 series “Klaus” upon finding out than BMW was German (held a grudge, but FUNNY lady, I miss her). on a side note I rebadged her plymouth voyager “GRAN VAN” with some leftover letters. My most beloved, though are just “the truck” and “the Malibu”. Occasionally “beige lightnng” or “malibu stacey” but none stuck. She’s a Malibu.
I also briefly owned an Iraqi Taxi (google it) Not naming that car “Bagg Daddy” was a missed opportunity. Sold it to a friend who creatively named it “the malibu”. oh well.

Anyway, Tucker is 3 and he says my wife is “such a nice girl” and I am his “best buddy.” Lol

I usually dont name cars but the 56 custom has been named since 1957 so its stuck with it. The car is named Miss Taboo. It got this name in 57 when the (then) owner started customizing it (he was 17) and his dad came out yelling at him and saying its “Taboo” to be cutting up a one year old car, and the name has stuck since then to this day.

I tried throwing a few names at my Mustang, but nothing seemed to really fit or stick. I’ve ended up referring to it as “ my ’95 ”, not only because of its model year, but mainly because it’s a SN95. And lucky me, it’s also a true 1995 car, not having been built the year before.
My truck, however, ended up with the name ’Murlequin , a portmanteau of ’Murica and harlequin . It was white with a blue interior, but by the time I bought it, someone had put a red seat inside. I got rid of the nasty old bed and replaced it with a blue one, but I still didn’t have a tailgate for it. I eventually found a red one. So the truck is all different colors now, but at least they contribute to a red, white, & blue theme.

I chose a Japanese name because the car is Japanese (‘J’ VIN); I chose a masculine name because I’m a single gay dude and my car is the next best thing to a significant other.

After that I had a red S-10 that I named Little Red.
Currently I have a Kia Soul named Cornelius after Don Cornelius the Soul Train host, and a Chevy Colorado that I call Gipsy after Gipsy Danger from Pacific Rim.

I’ve named all my cars:
‘85 Nova - Eleanor. Not after the Mustang, but Eleanor of Aquitaine. I bought her over winter break senior year and The Lion in Winter is a Christmas tradition in my family, and Eleanor was small but fierce. (At least, 17 year-old me that tried to do a mighty 74hp burnout at every light thought so)
‘91 Topaz - Charlotte. After the band, Good Charlotte, (although I could not name a single one of their songs on a bet) since Charlotte was a nice placid girl who didn’t like speeding or failed burnout attempts.
‘99 Century - Unruly Julie, after an obscure Natural Born Killers character. As a big comfy sofa on wheels, she was pretty ruly, actually.
‘93 Prelude - Kichirou, a Japanese name meaning, (according to a random website) ‘good luck son’. Sadly, it may be more ‘good luck, son’ as he may need a new engine after three months of ownership...
Bonus: Tried to get my g/f to name her ‘91 300e Ilsa (yes, after that Ilsa) but she went with Sheridan, which, according to her, is an Irish girl’s name that means wild and untamed. (To me, it’s a Civil War general, and, to most people our age, the guy from Bab5, but hey, not my car)

Dinah was the blue Mustang after Dinah Washington, ‘cause I fell in love with her loud pipes.
Roxanne was the red Mustang convertible (tan top), ‘cause she was blonde and like to take her top off.
The GTO is just GTO. I don’t know why but this car hasn’t presented me with a name yet. I can think of project names for it (Project Big Bird) but as a daily, it hasn’t broken in a major mechanical fashion. Perhaps I haven’t bled on it enough yet.
