This looks great

Kinja'd!!!

Still can’t get onboard with the tail lights but the Grand Prix is one of the more underrated early-2000s domestic designs. Especially with larger nice wheels.

It’s better than a Grand Am, but that’s not saying much. I give it 3/10 Pontiacs.

The rear is just right. The front bumper and hood are, uh, a bit much. Anyways, call me boring but I like this much better.

Give me this, a manual LS camero (or whatever), and a year and I will give you (figuratively speaking because I’d keep that shit) a rear wheel drive w-body

Any idea what wheels those are? They look great.

Former Grand Prix owner here, but I always liked these cars. There’s no mistaking them for a performance car but they were great for grand touring. The 3800 Series II was also a fantastic motor.

Yup. All the five-lug late-90s through 2000s mid-sized and full-sized GM cars had the same bolt pattern that the Mustang still has so there is a stupid amount of aftermarket wheels for them.

GTP 40th anniversary edition is one of the most surprising cars I’ve ever driven.

But yeah, those chrome grilles are horrid but that blue and those Mustang wheels are fantastic.

I always liked the 1993-1996 GTP’s too bad they are W-Bodys, if only they were on a RWD platform. I’d love to put the body of one on a tube chassis.

ETA: Just noticed the “aggreSSive” sticker across the windshield. Why would someone put an SS logo on a Pontiac?

3384lbs is heavy?

What?

Genesis coupe is 3495 lbs

Chevy Camaro is 3339 lbs

Bugatti Veyron (lol) is 4044 lbs

The only sporty cars I can think of that weigh less than a Grand Prix is the FR-S and Miata. It’s a very nice highway car / sleeper / grand touring car.

It’s been done. There exists a twin-engined Grand prix (of this generation, though) with a tube chassis with a forced-induction 3800 in the back driving the rear wheels and another one in the front.

There’s also an early-90s Oldsmobile Shillouette (?) built the same way.

So a Grand Prix GTP 40th Anniversary Edition? Wanted one ever since I drove one. Suprisingly excellent car, really. Rides comfy yet taught and understeer is minimal, it’s the lightest car they ever threw a supercharged 3800 Series II into, the autobox is... competent. I’d definitely have one as a second car.

3400lb is heavy for a FWD 2 door. Heck I think my car is too heavy but its 3200lbs and AWD. Any way my personal experience with Gran Prixs of this area has not been good. Just that they don’t handle, are don’t actually feel fast(even with a supercharger) and have GM quality interiors.

I dunno why people say that. They’re shitboxes but 7.4 second 0-60 in 2002 was *fast as shit* and the noise they make is almost cool enough to make you forget about the headliner lightly brushing your hair or the paint wearing off all the HVAC buttons

I mean, not that fast. That 60 time is only half a second faster than a period Taurus, .4 of a second slower than a V6 Accord sedan, and pretty much tied with a Nissan Altima. It’s certainly no slouch, but it’s not fast enough for it to be cool based on that alone

No, I haven’t, so my comment was a bit narrow minded. I can’t get past how painfully unattractive they are. They don’t seem sporty to me at all. They seem bloated and the styling seems forced. And the interiors are woeful. At least to me, anyway.

Actually the design is mid-’90's: The production version of the then-new-for-’97 was revealed in early ‘96, so this car’s design likely began in ‘94 or ‘95. Crazy when you think about it.

I remember when these first hit the roads, how AWESOME they looked compared to the competition, and even cars in different classes. These things were so hot when they were new.

Yeah it’s crazy when you think about design and realize that the design of any given car was in the works for probably 3 years before it actually hit the road.

Don’t ask me how I stumbled across this thread, but I had a few things to say. The 0-60 for the GTP was actually reported to be in the mid-6's, depending on the year, which was actually quite fast for the time. Sure, some of the really high performance Germans and muscle cars would beat it, but in some cases, not by much. It was really a good highway cruiser and, providing you could get the power to the ground, was quick off the line. It also had instantaneous torque basically anywhere in the rev band, and could get over 30MPG cruising on the highway from 55-70. I managed 33MPG on a 3 hour drive doing 70mph on my last long drive.

Additionally, many people forget that their impressions of these cars are after nearly 100k hard miles. The owners of these cars drove them hard, and it showed. 3 years ago I bought a 2000 GTP Daytona with 3,600 miles on it, and I was actually surprised at how nice the interior was when in new condition. Sure, it looked dated and had typical 90s GM plastic, but it was quite comfortable and quiet. It wasn’t exactly sparse in the features department, either. It had a heated/powered drivers seat, wonderful heads up display, a sunroof, Bose stereo (which was alright), all of the typical safety sensors like ABS, traction control, etc,  and very comfortable leather seats...All you need to do is track down a couple squeaks and fix them. I honestly like these cars, all things considered, and wish that there were more around that haven’t been beaten on and rusted to pieces. They do make really nice low priced, decent performing daily drivers.

I do desperately wish it was easier to find these in good condition. A quick check on Craigslist for sub-100k-mile Grand Prix’ returned only one 2002 GT with a disappointing lack of blower
