Kinja'd!!!

so during an ultrasound they found that my son’s kidney retains fluid and it shouldn’t, it should all drain to the bladder. after birth they did a couple different exams involving catheters and stuff. They have determined that a one direction only valve is actually two way allowing for urine to flow back to the kidney. They said that the salts in the urine did some damage making it not operate at its fullest potential. They can repair the valve but they don’t want to operate on a 6 week old so they are waiting until hes about two so tomorrow we have to have him snipped so minimize the chance of urine infections which can further damage the kidney and continue on antibiotics until the surgery. so yea.... that sux.

Man, sorry to hear that. My oldest had enlarged kidneys in prenatal ultrasounds, so we had to go thru all the tests you probably just went thru. Fortunately for us, everything was okay with him. Our youngest also had enlarged kidneys on prenatal ultrasounds, and the doctor was all “we may need to test....” and I was all “naw, it’s cool, the Comes Over boys just got the big kidneys.”

Hang in there man...

Man, I’m sorry to hear that. I hope your son stays healthy as can be, and your posting about a successful surgery in a couple years. My 12 month old son was just in the ER a month ago, as it turns out he’s allergic to amoxicillin. It’s terrifying when shit goes wrong with the kids that young. If there are any medical questions, give a shout. I’m not that sort of doctor, but speak the language well enough to point you in the right direction of resources that may help.

Good luck.

Hang in there, mini opposaurus (and family). Sometimes I start thinking too much and it surprises me that any babies come out functioning. So many tiny parts.

My sister had those issues when she was about 6. She had surgery and never suffered any ill effects.

Aside from that my son also had some fairly severe medical issues as a newborn. I know how you are feeling. Your family will be in my thoughts. Reach out if you ever need someone to talk to about it. Its fucking scary.
