What should I look for? This example has 240k, but it’s the right price, and drives pretty nice other than needing shocks.

I had a 95 Le Saber once. 90's Buicks are fine modes of transportation. It’s like driving your kitchen counter sitting on your couch if that makes any sense. If you haven’t driven this Roadmaster yet it will make sense after you drive it.

240k is a ton of miles for a 90's GM anything , but if they have some service records, and it seems decent, go for it! It’s like cruising around in a Barcalounger with a roof.

does it have the 265 lt1 or the 350 lt1? the 8th letter in the vin is a W if it is the 265 v8. those are what i tracked down when i built a franken 305 round seal engine(4 inch bore (350 block)x 3 inch stroke(4.3l. crank and rods(the 4.3 rods are a special5.94inch long)))..........

I think the Roadmaster only got the LT1. Caprices got the 265, which is not an LT1.

Top priority: water pump and optispark.

If the front of the engine is wet with coolant or oil it may need a WP/Opti in the near future, and that’s not cheap.

Just saw a crazy clean one the other day. I posted about it. We had one long ago 1997ish was a decent car but the parents sold it for a volvo 850R and thus began my stepfathers love for bricks.

i had seen a couple in yards. but that was SOME time back. they were both on my list of cars to check while in yards. it was a 94-96 only deal......

Yup, and I’d rather have a 96 if possible due to the vented opti and OBDII.

I drove it, and it went like it had the LT1

never cared much for the opti-spark. it was right under the water pump, and ANY moisture/heat killed them quick. but when they are right, they work nice. the replacement opti were not much count either.

IIRC the only ones worth it were the ACDelco and MSD optis. All the other “cheaper” ones failed quickly and further damaged the reputation of the design itself- which isn’t too terrible if you watch it.

And don’t get me started on all the “cap and rotor” repairs...

YES, and you bought the name$ (ac/msd)more than anything else. worth the money though, for peace of mind.....

I’d check to see if the 4L60E is smooth and free of slippage. It would also be good to see if the Optispark has been done, because if it hasn’t been done, it will need doing.

My grandmother had a Roadmaster. It’s the only mode of transport that I’ve gotten motion sickness in, and I was driving it at the time(this includes cruise liners in bad, but not terrible, weather). I’m assuming the entire suspension was totally shot(bushings included). It felt like the body was sitting on a single spring in the middle. When I turned, the body didn’t turn with the frame, then kinda swung left to right after it caught on. It was very disconcerting. I do remember it having pretty good pickup though.
