On the other hand, I wonder how well (or rather, badly) those “additions” to the Mk2 Fiesta, the Mk4 Escort and the Mk3 Capri worked. Rear wings are supposed to work together with a proper front spoiler/splitter etc, as some 911 drivers have found out in a rather spectacular fashion.
The whaletail in the Escort RS Cosworth did push the rear down, but there was a (logically) noticeable penalty in top speed.

I think the vast majority of added after market rear spoilers have a negative effect on the cars but for almost all owners that add them it’s for aesthetic reasons.
I don’t think it hampered our police forces in any way though.

I remember reading about an Escort Cosworth which had been “acquired” by the local constabulary (cannot remember which, sorry) through a drugs bust or something, so the car already had the big aero package.
Would be interesting to know how many Escort Cosworths ended up doing high-speed pursuits for the law enforcement units in the UK. I think some county had an RS200 too, back in the day...

If the licence plates are anything to go by there belong to Northumbria Police.
Motorway patrols and large cities usually get some interesting high powered cars.
Manchester police were the first to get high powered Ford Escorts with the Ford Escort Mexico, back in the 1970s.
The RS200 was for promotional use.
They recreated the scene with a Focus RS.
Interesting watch.
