Anybody else see some 911 rear end influences on the new Supra from these spy shots? Especially from the side profile, from the window back. At least that’s what I’m seeing.
I’m also surprised as to how small the car looks for a Supra... I know it’s supposed to be based off the new Z4 but still

What price range is this in? Is it 370z nismo money or 911 base money? If it looks anything like the show car it will be pretty cool. A Z4 isn’t too big, my neighbor has one, a bit bigger than an ft86 anyway.

I have to take issue with this quote -
When Toyota sets its engineers free, the automaker is capable of producing some wonderfully capable and formidable machines. Toyota head Akio Toyoda’s no-boring-cars creed, not to mention the fact that the automaker is partnering with BMW, gives us hope that, like the Subaru/Toyota BRZ/FR-S/86 mashup, the project may produce something more than the neutered and milquetoast Toyota products of late.
The BRZ/86 was primarily a Subaru project funded by Toyota and Toyota still managed to almost ruin it with stupid stipulations such as that the engine must have a bore and stroke of 86mm because there needs to be 86 in more places. To me, Toyota really nails it when they realize that their engineers are boring and call up Yamaha to build them a revvy engine and Lotus to make sure the car turns correctly. Examples are the 2000GT which was all Yammie, the A60 with a Lotus suspension, the AW11 which was a Yamaha head with input from a former Lotus engineer on the suspension, the Elise with a Yamaha head on the ZZ motor and Lotus everything else, etc. The 1JZGTE is Yamaha. The 2ZZ is Yamaha. All 4AGEs are Yamaha, the best 3Ss were Yamaha....
Basically, Toyota should always outsource their good shit to Yamaha.

Ha ha, I like that idea. Always liked the revs Yamaha gets from it’s engines. Taurus SHO is another good example of outsourcing an engine.

No clue yet, haven’t heard anything about pricing. I’m still surprised this whole car isn’t just vaporware (like the next RX-?), happy to see test mules of this car.

I think Yamaha’s the best engine design company in the world. There should be a balance between price, performance, and reliability, but Yamaha somehow always manages to find all three.
