in Missouri you can buy back ( or deduct payout) your totaled car, reinsure as comprehensive only, and either drive it or part it.

Does California allow that ? I know Illinois doesn’t.

I’m not surprised they totalled it, since all the air bags and the whole front end would have to be replaced. Most likely also has damage too the front unibody crumple zone. It’s a 5 year old car, so probably costs more to repair than the car is worth to them.
